Girl Scouts: What's your passion?

St. Francis Girls "Get Moving!"

SF GS to Denver Nov 2012

Girl Scout Troop 10124 attended a museum camp-in at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the Denver Zoo last weekend, where they completed activities from the "Get Moving" Journey.  The girls had to build a structure to support an egg to keep it from breaking as it was dropped from a second floor balcony. All the girls from St Francis did a great job, and none of their eggs broke! ~ Sarah Yardley, Troop 10124

Get ready for Cookies Now!

Troop volunteers, you are invited to Cookie Sale Training for your Troop's Cookie Sale. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the new direct sale format: Cookies Now! Cookies Now is the exciting NEW format for the Cookie Sale. From the very first day of the Cookie Sale, girls will have packages of cookies in hand to sell door-to-door and to family and friends. This means selling, delivering, and money collection is done in one easy step! Check out all the Cookie Program details on our website, and save the date for the training nearest you. At training, Troops will receive the Cooke Sale Materials along with information on how to order your Troop's cookies and manage the Troop's Cookie Sale.

Just for Juniors!

Learn about the GS Bronze Award

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve.  When girls work toward the Bronze Award, they demonstrate what Girl Scouts can achieve in their communities. Earning the Bronze Award involves completing a Journey, building a team, and exploring the community, then choosing a project, planning it, putting it into motion, and spreading the word!  These Girl Scouts earn their awards with courage, confidence, and character and make a difference in the world around them!

There are eight steps that the girls will take to earn their Girl Scout Bronze Award.

  1. Choose one of three Girl Scout Junior Journeys to complete.
  2. Build your Girl Scout Junior team, including an expert in the topic, leaders, parents, friends, and of course, the girls!
  3. Explore the community, research an issue that is significant to the girls, and interview experts on that issue.
  4. Choose your Girl Scout Bronze Award project.
  5. Make a plan.
  6. Put your plan into motion.
  7. Spread the word.  (www.kansasgirlscouts.org/share, local newspaper, YouTube, Facebook)
  8. When projects are complete send the Bronze Award Final report http://kansasgirlscouts.org/wp-content/uploads/bronze-award-project-report.pdf to awards@gskh.org for approval to purchase the award.

Seeking Nominations

Salute someone for their volunteer service

Volunteer award nominations are officially open for volunteer service during the 2011-12 Girl Scout year!  Any girl, troop, parent, or volunteer can submit a nomination.  Nominations are reviewed by a council-wide committee, and award recipients are honored at an appreciation event in the spring.  It's time to start thinking about how to recognize the amazing women and men who make Girl Scouting possible across Kansas!

Check out the information here! This year, we've included pictures of the awards, some sample nomination DOs & DON'Ts, and an online form, so nominating is a snap!
