Evening shift nurse captures essence of Independence Day while on duty
Because home health and hospice care doesn't stop for holidays,fireworks-summer.jpg Joni  Adams, an evening shift on-call Registered Nurse at Deaconess VNA, was working the night of July 4. As she completed her chart documentation while sitting in her car downtown, she penned this poem:

River City Sulfur mists
  Annual independence reminisce.
For THIS night,
  It's all right
to park on the Lloyd and watch

The great big little town
  proud, diverse, historic and planned
    this side, that side,
        flat, hilly, Nut Club silly

Smoke and mist
  Young girls kissed
    Boys dodge smiling fists
LOOK!!! I can't resist!!! .....OOOOOHHHHH! THAT one I've
NEVER SEEN!!!

Young, old, singular and coupled
  foot traffic quickly doubled

Whimsy and magic
Free market package,
Glow in the darks, and some with sparks

Fountain spray
  Children play
oh and ahh
Oh that's AALLLL.....AAAWWWWW

Cops and crowds
  towing, get going
Hurry up, me first

and.....
oh yeah.....back to work..... (I love my job!)

The United States Department of Justice offers the Elder Justice Website, a resource for victims of elder abuse and financial exploitation and their families; practitioners who serve them; law enforcement agencies and prosecutors; and researchers seeking to understand and address this silent epidemic plaguing our nation's elders.

A Celebration of Memories
Community, staff honors, remembers loved ones
Hospice volunteer Mary Wolk
Hospice volunteer, Mary Wolk read names of those being remembered at the Celebration of Memories.
Deaconess VNA Staff and community donors and supporters turned out to remember and honor loved ones at the inaugural Celebration of Memories on July 1. The event included a color guard presentation by Boy Scout Troop 343, stirring patriotic music and the reading of more than 150 names (and their military branch of service, if appropriate) for whom a donation had been made in response to a Memorial Day fund-raising effort to benefit hospice programs and services. The event was followed by a picnic lunch, hosted by the Deaconess VNA Fund Development department. It was a moving, emotional and meaningful kick-off to the Independence Day holiday weekend...many thanks to everyone who attended!
