If you're a faithful reader of this newsletter, you know that we don't generally devote an entire issue to articles about Deaconess VNA Plus...but we've had so many exciting things going on the past few weeks, we're making an exception this month! We'll go back to our usual format in the June issue.

Eldorado Medical Director Honored for Service
Involvement dates back to beginning of hospice program
2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the Deaconess VNA Plus Eldorado, Illinois office providing professional hospice services to its Dr. Elliott Partridgecommunities... and integral to this success is the dedication of its medical director, Elliott Partridge, MD, who has been involved with the hospice program since the very beginning.

As a Family Practice physician in Eldorado, Dr. Elliott was instrumental in the development of the hospice program in Illinois and is committed to providing the highest quality of care and support to patients and families. We thank him for his continuing service..and thanks to the Hospice staff who deliver their expertise and compassion every day!

2015 Evansville Icemen donation

The ice has melted but the Evansville Icemen's generosity keeps on giving! For the second year in a row, David Cosby (center) of Quadco and Napa Auto Parts--the jersey sponsor for the hockey team--chose Deaconess VNA Plus to receive the proceeds of the end-of-season jersey auction in honor of the experience David and his family had with the John and Betty Charlier Hospice Center. Thanks to loyal fans, the auction garnered more than $5,000 for the Agency! "We Can Learn From One Another"

Barbara Lawry visit to Charlier Hospice Center

Barbara Lawry, who sits on the Board of Harlaxton College--the University of Evansville's British campus near London--recently traveled to southern Indiana to participate in UE commencement activities.

Barbara, formerly a nurse and midwife, and currently a hospice counselor, mentioned to her host, Jerrilee LaMar, an Assistant Professor of Nursing at UE, that she would love to talk with a local hospice agency to learn how this care is provided across the pond. Jerrilee arranged a meeting with Deaconess VNA Plus Hospice staff and a tour of the John and Betty Charlier Hospice Center; the two visitors spent a morning sharing observations and stories with Andrea Walker, Hospice Supervisor, and Shirley Gubler, Hospice Manager. All agreed that it was a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other and be reminded that regardless of where we live in the world, we all have a desire to be free from pain, suffering and fear at the end of life...and we need the support of hospice professionals to make "a good death" possible.
