Understanding Cataract
Nation's leading cause of blindness affects millions

How Many Fruits and Veggies Do You Really Need?
CDC's new calculator clears up the debate

Remember when your mother told you to "eat your vegetables!"? It turns fruit-display.jpg out she was right (as moms usually are)...and she could have added fruits to that directive as well. A growing body of research shows that fruits and vegetables are critical to promoting good health; yet very few people eat as many servings as they need daily to reap the benefits. To help the public better understand how much of these foods to consume for optimal health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has developed a calculator that bases daily needs on factors such as age, weight and physical activity. To see what's right for you personally, visit the CDC page, Nutrition for Everyone.

"Awww" Moment of the Month
When a Nickel Is Worth Much More than Five Cents
Child's donation touches staff
It's not uncommon for Deaconess VNA Plus to receive memorial contributions on behalf of people who have passed away in our care. However, when staff opened up an envelope recently, they found that the requested memorial information had been carefully filled out in what was obviously a child's handwriting; and enclosed was a nickel in honor of a beloved grandfather. It was a wonderful tribute to a special man and a shining example of his grandchild's love...and for all of us, this simple gesture reinforced yet again why we do what we do every day!
