I was born right before the end of World War II. My early years were a time of homecomings, abundance, joy, hope, and the thought that we had achieved peace and freedom. This was an illusion.
Oh yes...there was certainly much good that came out of the war effort in the end, but before long it was the Korean War, Vietnam, the "Cold War" with Russia, etc, etc, etc.
I recall being in "duck and cover" position under my 3rd grade desk in school, during a routine air raid alert, wondering why we could not have peace, and if we ever would. I have always prayed for peace, and to this day my childlike heart still wishes on every falling star I see, for peace on earth for all people everywhere.
Here we are, more than half a century later, and we still have not figured out the "secret" of lasting peace and plenty. Well, that is not true. We know what to do, we just have countless reasons and excuses why it won't work, or why we can't do it. This is where we put "sense man" above "spiritual man," and let ambition and selfishness take over.
We say that war is a "necessary evil," and so it may be for those of lower consciousness. Are we not evolving past that way of being? Is it not time to see new possibilities for our future?
In Unity we teach "Life is consciousness." Change happens via a change in the way we think, feel and act. The peace we desire will come when we do the "metaphysical math," realizing that it is all about cause and effect. The longer we hold warring thoughts, and a belief that peace is not possible, it will not be possible. The longer we look at ourselves as separate and adversarial; as "we" and "they" peace is not possible.
This does not make our brave men and women of the military wrong. They are doing what they believe to be the right thing, and risking their very lives for the freedom we enjoy...freedom we take for granted. They are victims, not of the war, but a belief that war can bring peace.
We must find a better way. We must live as One, because this is the Truth of our Being. It will be a long journey...not that it needs to be, but as hard-headed as we tend to be, with an aversion to the possibility we could be wrong, it could take a while. The change will happen. How long it takes, and how painful it will be, is up to us. This is what you can do: Commit to being a Change M.A.C.R! Because we are all One, by being Mutually Accountable and Collectively Responsible for being Peacemakers, we will bring Peace.
Pause: STOP and become aware. Consider that we are all One.
Ponder: Do the meta-math; observe the downward spiral of the cause and effect of conflict. Consider the possibility that change CAN happen. The lyrics in this posting ask the question, "When will they ever learn...when will they ever learn? We will learn when we open our minds and hearts to the Living Spirit of Truth.
Do not let it be that those whose lives we commemorate this weekend, will have died in vain. Be willing to live in peace. Live FOR peace. Be willing to change. Honor and show your appreciation for our fallen brothers and sisters by doing the good things they did. Live with faith, strength, courage.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." Jesus Christ
LET there be Peace on Earth...and LET it begin with you, and me!
