Hero 2 Hired

Hero to Hired, or H2H, is a Department of Defense employment program that makes it easy for Servicemembers, veterans and family members to connect with military-friendly companies and find jobs. This resource complements the established 3-Step Employment Process already in place.

For Servicemembers, H2H was created to offer career exploration tools, military-to-civilian skills translations, resume support, education and training resources, virtual job fairs, a mobile phone application and many other tools. For employers, H2H was created as a free program to give them direct access to qualified candidates who already have background checks and security clearances - not to mention valuable skills to add to the workforce.

To help Servicemembers and employers in Minnesota connect with H2H, an Employment Transition Coordinator is available. Minnesota's coordinator, Laura Mehlhorn, works out of H2H's Camp Ripley office and can be reached by phone at 706-464-1793, or by email at [email protected].

A new way to use GI Bill benefits

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs has announced a new program for veterans and their dependents that allows them to learn a trade or skill through participation in apprenticeship or on-the-job training rather than by attending classes.

Examples of on-the-job training that qualify include police officer or mechanic, and apprenticeships such as electrician or carpenter.

Everything veterans and their dependants need, including contact information for MDVA Higher Education Veterans Program coordinators in campuses around the state, can be found on Beyond the Yellow Ribbon's "Jobs for Veterans" page.

Three-Step Employment Process

Dedication, smart planning and strategic networking will lead to a job.

Start at Positively Minnesota, where you'll be connected to a clear, three-step process to put your military skills to work in a new career.
