GI Bill benefits for vets not in college

On-the-Job Training and Apprenticeship

This program allows working veterans and their dependents to receive GI Bill benefits while learning a trade or skill via on-the-job training through their current employer, rather than attending college classes.

In addition to providing an opportunity for veterans, the program benefits employers who are able to bring a veteran on as a trainee. The trainee undergoes the employer-prescribed training program and, at the end of the training, the employer has a fully-trained journeyman employee.

Examples of on-the-job training in which veterans are eligible to receive benefits include:

- Police Officer                - Highway Patrol Officer

- Jailer                               - Mechanic

Examples of apprenticeships include:

- Machinist                      - Ironworker                      - Electrician

- Carpenter                       - Plumber                           - Power Line Worker

Learn more about the On-the-Job Training and Apprenticeship program by calling LinkVet at 1-888-546-5838, or visit the Department of Veterans Affairs OJT & Apprenticeship Training page.
