Online tools help job-search decisions

Positively Minnesota's website offers clear guidance to job-seeking Servicemembers via the Three-Step Process, but that's not all.

Three online tools are available to provide job seekers with labor market intelligence, including in-demand jobs and wage information by region. Armed with knowledge, and of course the support of a Veterans Employment Representative, job seekers are able to customize their job search based on the salary expectation and job demand trends that are currently being seen throughout Minnesota.

Occupations in Demand

Allows job seekers to find out what jobs are in high demand in each region of the state.

Job Skills Transfer Assessment Tool

Provides job seekers the ability to easily describe one's marketable skill attributes and match those against existing job openings that require similar skills

Occupational Employment and Wages

Provides job seekers data on typical wages by occupation and region in the state.

Vets preferred in upcoming firefighter hire

The Minneapolis Fire Department will be accepting applications for full-time firefighter positions during a three-day period in January and February, giving preference to interested veterans.

By presenting a DD214, veterans will receive 10 Veterans Points toward their overall score as a candidate. Disabled veterans receive 15 points.

Applications are available at any Minneapolis Fire Station or the Minneapolis Human Resources Office, and will be accepted in person on the following dates at the Northeast Minneapolis Armory:

- Jan. 31, 2013, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

- Feb. 1, 2013, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

- Feb. 2, 2013, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
