Free Movie Screening
Beautiful Swimmers Revisited
Monday, June 6
7 p.m.
Maryland Hall
801 Chase Street
Annapolis
|
This documentary, by author Tom Horton, photographer Dave Harp and filmmaker Sandy Cannon-Brown, updates the work of William W. Warner's 1976 exploration of watermen, crabs and the Chesapeake Bay, in his Pulitzer Prize-winning book published in 1976.
Callinectes sapidus, the scientific name of the blue crab, translates to the name of the book and the subsequent documentary film. The film examines the life of the crab and how it fits into the overall ecology of the Chesapeake Bay and its inhabitants.
In addition to the film screening, several local environmental organizations will present exhibits and a panel, including two of
the filmmakers and others, will discuss the points made in the film.

Steel Drum Returns to Jazz Quartet For Some Jamaican Sounds
The AOTB Property Owners Association is throwing a great party on the community beach. Wine tasting will be offered by Bay Ridge Wine & Spirits at no charge to adult community members. They will select Summer Wines to Sip, Swirl, and Savor. Their wine experts will guide party goers through some of the best wines for summer sipping. Wine will also be available to purchase by the full glass and by the bottle. We are also adding some Reserve Wines and great beers for purchase. The wine and Jazz party is an adults only event.
The Jim Ballard Jazz Quartet will be performing all afternoon for those who wish to listen or dance. Nadine Fourgenie will perform as a special guest on steel drums offering some great Bob Marley songs. Ballard has performed with the Ink Spots, locally at Middleton's Tavern and was even featured during the Obama Inaugural. Ballard will perform vocals and the group includes saxophone, bass, piano and drums plus steel drum. Contact Marc Apter below with song requests.
