It was wonderful to see so many of you, both familiar faces and new, at the Fall Statewide meeting on October 15th in Helena. We had a full day of business, education, and celebration. I've provided some highlights here.

ASK ME UPDATE:
STOP sign, buttons, Cancer educational cards - Oh My! In 2012, the ASK ME campaign was adopted by the MT Cancer Control Coalition's (MTCCC) Early Detection and Implementation Team (EDIT) as part of our yearly goals for our 5yr cancer plan for the State of Montana. The "ASK ME" Campaign was developed in Washington State by the Washington Breast, Cervical, and Colon Health Program (WBCCHP). The campaign was developed to increase the number of uninsured or underinsured women who received mammograms. The campaign recruited local volunteer partners to post "Ask Me" signs and/or wear "Ask Me" buttons. When an individual questioned the volunteer partner about the sign or button, the employee hands them a card that provides contact information on how women can learn more about the free mammograms through their state program.

Due to the overwhelming support and success of the ASK ME Campaign, the EDIT Team decided to run the campaign for the current year. The EDIT Team revamped our buttons and cards to make them more appealing with specific colors to focus on Breast, Cervical and Colorectal cancers. From July - December 2013, the EDIT Team partnered with several businesses across the state including Town Pump and Murdoch's; distributing 1066 cards to Montanans to promote cancer screenings. The three specific campaigns are Breast (October 2013), Cervical (January 2014) and Colorectal (March 2014).
The MTCCC EDIT would like to thank all the volunteer partners and their staff who make this campaign not only a success, but fun.
With the recent move of Sarah Porter-Osen to the Co-Chair Role with the MTCCC. The EDIT Team is in need of a Chair. This position has been very rewarding and the team itself is wonderful to work with. If your passion lies with making a difference and working with a team to find fun, innovative ways to promote early detection of cancer, please contact Lisa Troyer at the MTCCC, LTroyer@mt.gov.

Focus on Youth a Featured Priority
If working for and with youth and teens are a passion for you, we are looking for 4-10 people to participate on a committee! During the fall MTCCC meeting, we had a short presentation from our new friend, Dr. Barbara Green. She presented information on the impact of cancer on youth and teens when cancer comes into their lives. We know there is a great impact and have dedicated two strategies in our Cancer Plan to help:
1) Ensure schools know how to respond to a child when cancer touches them or a family member dies
2) Examine the care that kids get during pediatric cancer when their care is out of state and how we connect them to services in Montana during this time and when they return.
