One Great Year Deserves Another

As president of the Canyon Ranch Institute Board of Directors, I'm proud to share with you that CRI and our partners are measurably improving health among numerous underserved populations. I'm deeply grateful to supporters like you who contribute to Canyon Ranch Institute in so many ways so that we can share the best practices of Canyon Ranch and our partners to help educate, inspire, and empower every person to prevent disease and embrace a life of wellness. The generosity of friends like you makes it possible for CRI to work where we are needed - from the halls of Congress to streets and neighborhoods around the world. Looking ahead to 2014, the support of your tax-deductible contribution will help Canyon Ranch Institute continue to advance health literacy, improve prevention, and eliminate health disparities - one person at a time. CRI Life Enhancement Programs are providing valuable data on significant positive health and wellness changes that are gathered before, during, immediately after, and one year after each group of participants finishes the program. Canyon Ranch Institute analyzes the data, and the outcomes are a frequent topic at prestigious venues such as the Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Health Literacy and the American Public Health Association annual meeting.
In July, I had the honor of joining CRI Founder Mel Zuckerman, Berkshire Health Systems CEO David E. Phelps, and CRI Executive Director and Board Member Jennifer Cabe to announce our new partnership with Berkshire Health Systems (BHS). Together, BHS and CRI established a CRI Life Enhancement Program for low-income, medically underserved residents of Berkshire County, MA. The first group of BHS-CRI Life Enhancement Program participants will graduate this week!
In October, families participated in the preview for our newest program with the non-profit Tucson Medical Center - the CRI Life Enhancement Program for Families. We developed this program because evidence shows that the earlier that children and families start living healthy lifestyles, the better chance the children have of adopting healthy habits for life.
Through our multifaceted partnership with The Ohio State University College of Nursing, we are pioneering new approaches to health literacy, integrative health, and prevention within curriculum development and interprofessional education programming. In collaboration with Dean Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, Ph.D., R.N., CPNP/PMHNP, FNAP, FAAN, and her team, we are also planning the launch of a CRI Life Enhancement Program in a low-income community of Columbus, OH.
Canyon Ranch Institute is a 501(c)3 non-profit public charity.
