Student Philanthropy Council, Libraries launch the "Bird Plug-In" project
The Student Philanthropy Council and Syracuse University Libraries have joined forces to launch the "Bird Library Plug-In" project on 'CuseFunder-crowdfunding for great SU causes. The project will address the #1 student complaint about Bird Library-the need for more power outlets. "Bird Library Plug-In" began on March 23 as part of the kick-off to Philanthropy Week 2015 and is seeking to raise at least $2,500 between March 23 and April 10. A gift of as little as $20 will fund an additional outlet. "Students spend an incredible amount of time in Bird Library and while the University has been hard at work making updates to the basement and first floor, we want to be part of the solution now and for the future," says Ivan Robles '15, a finance, accounting, and policy studies major and chairperson for the Student Philanthropy Council. Broad support is needed to make the outlets project a reality. Be part of the "Bird Plug-In," and help students make Bird even more "plug-in" friendly. Every gift counts! Visit 'CuseFunder to make a donation.

More power!
Right before Spring Break, Syracuse Office Environments installed new seating in the space between the two lower level classrooms in Bird Library. The new pieces of furniture have outlets below the cushions making it easy for people to plug in their devices.

New Libraries' Endowments
The Libraries have established two new endowment funds that will have a favorable impact on the student experience at the University.
The Libraries Student Employee Scholarship Fund will provide annual awards to help deserving Libraries' student employees defray the cost of books or other equipment necessary for their coursework. The fund is endowed by Stan and Kathy Walters, a pair of Syracuse University alumni. Kathy Walters is a member of the Libraries' Advisory Board, which meets later this week in New York.
The Donald P. Ely Memorial Fund was created by his wife, Martha Spencer Ely, and his family as a living memorial to him. The fund will assist the Libraries in developing and outfitting new spaces that advance teaching, scholarship and research amidst a continuously evolving information and technology landscape. Dr. Ely (1930-2014) was known internationally in the field of education, specializing in the area of audiovisual education/instructional technology. One of his children, Chris Ely, is a Libraries' employee working in Acquisitions and Cataloging.

The Bylaws of the University Senate state that four librarians serve as representatives in any year. Stephanie will replace Steven Hoover who has completed the second year of his term. Sophie Dong, Lesley Pease, and Bonnie Ryan will continue to serve the second year of their terms. Thank you to all who volunteered to be on the ballot.

Comments and complaints from the Interwebs
Almost every day, SU students comment and complain about the Library using social media outlets, such as Twitter and Facebook. Many of their musings receive a reply from the Library's official Twitter handle, @SyracuseULib. Here are some of the things that have been on their minds:- There are more outlets in the bottom section of this megabus then all of Bird Library.
- Just outside Bird Library where a Jimmy John's delivery man on a bike collided with a female student on the road. http://t.co/SUmSCjDQd4
- My apologies to my fellow Bird Library 4th floor occupants for my loud food wrappers.
- Shout out to Club Bird for always being another place where I can pretend to be doing homework while I watch YouTube videos.
- It's going to be a looong night. #clubbird
- The security officer at the door of the library should at least pat you on the back when you're leaving the library late. #ClubBird
- I want to make out in one of those private study rooms in Bird Library before I graduate. Is that weird???
- I never paid that $50 library fine from Bird Library. Oh well, lol. They telling me to come up there with a check.
- If you're in Bird Library and have an Advil/Tylenol/etc, holla at me! Headache crazy.
- SU Library doesn't have Blade Runner on DVD. Wut.
- So done with Club Bird, I just want someone to come and study with me.
- Back to Club Bird after a wholly unsuccessful attempt at a nap.
- Disappointed in the lack of a Club Bird Snapchat Geofilter for the library.
