Open Enrollment 2014
Open Enrollment 2014

Open Enrollment 2014
will begin on November 3 and continue through November 14. This is the one time each year you may make changes to your benefit elections, unless you undergo a change in family status such as marriage, divorce, the birth or adoption of a child, or other "qualifying life event" in 2015. It is also when you must specify how much you will contribute to a health care and/or dependent care FSA for 2015.

Important information for 2015:

The Office of Human Resources has scheduled a number of Open Enrollment Information Sessions on campus. With few major changes for 2015, these sessions will serve as a benefits refresher and educational experience, provided through three in-person sessions and two live webinars complemented by short recorded webinars, accessible online at any time.

New SU NetID password change requirement starts November 3
New SU NetID password change requirement starts November 3
Starting November 3, anyone with a SU NetID password will be required to change their password at least once a year. You can change your SU NetID password at any time before it expires. Your new password expiration date is set one year from the date you change your password.

After a password change, you will need to update it on all devices that use it. For instance, smart phones, tablets, or laptops will use it in multiple places like email programs, WiFi connections, and VPN configurations.

For details on the SU NetID password change requirement, visit the password change page in Answers.syr.edu (you'll need to log in with your SU NetID and password) or view the SU News item.

If you have any questions, please contact LITS at  ex. 4300 or lisd@syr.edu.

United Way Election Day Bake Sale
United Way Election Day Bake Sale
It's here: the 2014 United Way Campaign.

We'll be holding our annual Election Day Bake Sale on Tuesday, November 4 at 10 a.m. in the Learning Commons. Start going through your favorite recipes and line up ingredients!

This year's theme is Participate with Pride! The SU Libraries has a long history of doing just that--let's keep up the good work! Each person's gift is matched with many other contributions and helps support a network of health and human service programs. Giving to a favorite charity through the United Way is a win-win for both organizations. You should've received both your United Way paper pledge card and your first e-pledge opportunity. If you haven't, let Pat Hunt know and she'll be happy to get one to you.

Also, the Libraries United Way Team is looking for news members. The time commitment is minimal, and concentrated around our major fundraisers. After checking with your supervisor, contact any team member if you're interested.

Thank you in advance for supporting our community through your participation in the Libraries United Way activities and by filling out your pledge card/online form.

On behalf of the Libraries United Way Team:
Pat Hunt (chair), Nancy Cohen, Barbara Jackson, Matt Rescke, Penelope Singer

Tell Us What You Think!
Almost every day, SU students comment and complain about the Library using social media outlets, such as Twitter and Facebook. Many of their musings receive a reply from the Library's official Twitter handle, @SyracuseULib. Here are some of the things that have been on their minds:
  • Bird Library is pretty nice.
  • Bird Library has a nice new crisp energizing feel--love it! Keep up the good work!
  • Love the new furniture and arrangement on the first floor.
  • The whole library needs a makeover.
  • We'd like free coffee.
  • Printing here sucks.
  • The doors are too heavy.
  • More outlets, Kent!
  • Pleaseeeee enforce the no smoking within however many feet of the building rule outside the library. I walk through smoke on a daily basis. I'm very allergic!
  • The library shouldn't close at 10 p.m. on Friday!
  • Keep the third floor open past midnight!!!
  • PAUSE.... I thought Bird Library was open 24/7! I'm not allowed to study on a Saturday night? Smh and they wonder why we party!
  • There is a consistent high-pitched sound coming from the security detectors. It's distracting to be sitting near.
  • Stop the high-pitched noise!
  • Attention Bird Library users: only the library security office has pencil erasers. Naturally...
  • They really should open a school supply store in Bird. #ialwaysforgetmyhighlighter
  • In the past three days I've only known two words: Bird Library.
  • "Hey, are you going out this weekend?" Me: "Yeah, to Bird Library."
  • My new home for the next 10 days. http://ift.tt/1wg79LY
  • First library trip of the semester, had to happen eventually.
  • Had a great study session tonight. Bird Library just may be my new study place.
  • Meteorologist Kt's forecast for Bird Library: 42 degrees with precipitation of old smelly dust from the heater.
  • Bird Library has the best breakfast sandwiches.
  • Someone on the 4th floor of Bird Library has fries. I know it. I can smell them. #wherearethefries
  • Guy casually playing with Legos in Bird Library. He has a minimum of 4 giant Ziploc bags of materials. #extracredit #architecturemajors?
  • There are six floors to Bird Library and each floor gets quieter... Can you breath on six?
  • This morning's visit with #ist511 to #specialcollections at Bird Library: a phenomenal experience.
  • @SyracuseULib has an amazing bunch of people who genuinely want to help you.
