Each monthly assembly will be linked to one of our class themes to help illustrate the many ways these themes form the core of a GUS education. Parents are welcome at all assemblies throughout the year.
"WHERE AM I GOING?"--GRADE 3 AND 8
The first theme assembly is Monday, September 16 at 11:10 AM and will highlight "Where Am I Going." Third graders and eighth graders share this theme as they approach the question from two very different directions.
This assembly will begin with third grade co-teachers, Jen Arthur and Maureen Twombly, giving an overview of "Where Am I Going" as it is explored in third grade. Jeffrey Bartsch will give us the eighth grade perspective.
Following the intros, all grades will be involved with a mapping presentation where different classes will be visiting this year as part of their learning. For questions please contact Georgia Bills at gbills@gus.org.

UPPER SCHOOL & JOHNSON ART GALLERIES: CURRENT EXHIBITIONS
Joan Benotti Born in Boston, Joan Benotti has exhibited extensively throughout New England. She studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and printmaking at the Montserrat College of Art. She was a founding member of the Bromfield Gallery, a Boston-based artists' cooperative, and was the recipient of a printmaking grant from the Massachusetts State Council on the Arts. She lives on the North Shore.
Elynn Kröger A native of Massachusetts, Elynn Kröger has exhibited her work for the past 40 years and can be found in collections internationally. Intuitive, abstract, impressionist, textile, gestural, calligraphic, spatial, and organic, her work is not easily categorized. While working primarily with water-based media, Kroger also employs graphite and oil sticks. Sometimes hundreds of washes or layers can go into a piece, making the artist's expression of freshness, subtlety, and color all the more remarkable.
Kröger has been acknowledged since the start of her career; she placed first in painting in her debut showing, received a Massachusetts Council for the Arts grant, and achieved "Copley Artist" status in Boston. She was also selected to be a member of the New England Water Color Society, the youngest artist at the time of her induction. A resident of Gloucester for the past sixteen years, Kröger has exhibited her work locally at West End Studios/Gallery, Local Colors Gallery, "The Church" Gallery, the River Gallery, Passports Restaurant, the Hour Glass Gallery in Melrose, MA, and also at the Johnson Gallery in Beverly Farms, MA.
Both exhibitions run through October 25.
