APPLETON FAMILY FARM DAY: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

Last year, parent and board member Bob Carroll helped us establish a presence at this wonderful kids' event, and he will be helping once again. We host the pumpkin painting table, which entails helping children choose paint colors and brushes and then cleaning up. We are looking for adult and upper school student volunteers to donate just an hour of their time. The event runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Please contact Kelly Rostad, with the hour(s) you and/or your child want to help. We would love to have many GUS students there because they always represent the school so well. Please email Kelly at krostad@gus.org if you would like to help.  Click here for more information on the event.

CARPOOL DROP OFF & PICK UP

Lower school drop off: Join the line of cars using the Hart Street entrance. Staff members will open your right side door, greet your child, and assist your child in exiting with his or her belongings. If you would like to go into school, park beyond the bus sign or in the back parking lot. Please do not park in the visitor parking spaces to walk your child into school. The GUS school bus drops children at a designated spot at the head of the circle. PLEASE DO NOT PASS THE BUS while it is unloading. Also, please do not cross between cars or allow your child to cross between cars at drop off.
Lower school pick up
is in the circle (same as drop off). Please pull up to the "Dismissal line begins here" sign or directly behind the car in front of you. Do not leave spaces between cars. Children exit school with their teachers and wait with their classmates to be ushered into cars by teachers. Children are not allowed to walk to a car alone. Move your car forward slowly or exit the line once your child is safely buckled in. If you want to go into school, park beyond the "Dismissal line begins here" sign or in the back parking lot. Please do not park in visitor parking spaces to pick your child up.  Also, please do not cross between cars or allow your child to cross between cars at pick up.

Upper school: Please go to the back parking lot, where staff members will welcome your child into the upper school building. The line begins at the double doors. Cars proceed left toward Braemar and exit out the back driveway. Please drive slowly and come to a complete stop before turning left out of our parking lot. Please respect our neighbors driving to and from the North Shore Nursery School. Upper school pick up is in the back parking lot.

UPPER SCHOOL & JOHNSON ART GALLERIES: CURRENT EXHIBITIONS

Joan Benotti   Born in Boston, Joan Benotti has exhibited extensively throughout New England. She studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and printmaking at the Montserrat College of Art.  She was a founding member of the Bromfield Gallery, a Boston-based artists' cooperative, and was the recipient of a printmaking grant from the Massachusetts State Council on the Arts.  She lives on the North Shore.

Elynn Kröger   A native of Massachusetts, Elynn Kröger has exhibited her work for the past 40 years and can be found in collections internationally. Intuitive, abstract, impressionist, textile, gestural, calligraphic, spatial, and organic, her work is not easily categorized. While working primarily with water-based media, Kroger also employs graphite and oil sticks. Sometimes hundreds of washes or layers can go into a piece, making the artist's expression of freshness, subtlety, and color all the more remarkable.

Kröger has been acknowledged since the start of her career; she placed first in painting in her debut showing,  received a Massachusetts Council for the Arts grant, and achieved "Copley Artist" status in Boston. She was also selected to be a member of the New England Water Color Society, the youngest artist at the time of her induction. A resident of Gloucester for the past sixteen years, Kröger has exhibited her work locally at West End Studios/Gallery, Local Colors Gallery, "The Church" Gallery, the River Gallery, Passports Restaurant, the Hour Glass Gallery in Melrose, MA, and also at the Johnson Gallery in Beverly Farms, MA.

Both exhibitions run through October 25.
