TECHNICAL UPDATEOctober 2014
Greetings!

This e-bulletin provides the latest technical news pertaining to manufactured building, with links to CMHI technical reports and other information available online.

NATIONAL CODES PUBLIC REVIEW
National Model Codes Affect Your Products

The annual fall public review of proposed changes to the national model codes is underway. Because these codes serve as the basis for virtually all construction regulation in Canada, it's important to review proposed changes to the national documents to make sure that acceptable requirements are included in provincial and territorial regulations

You are invited to review the proposed changes on the CMHI website under Technical Information for Members. Some of the more significant proposed changes address:

  • 9.3.1. concrete standard - for our site-builders, to maintain status quo (Document 2, proposed change 809)
  • 9.8.4.2. step dimensions - minimum 10" run
    (Document 2, proposed change 843)
  • 9.10.15.3. spatial separation, doubling limiting distance   - revert to 1995 requirement (Document 2, proposed change 894)
  • 9.25.5. location of low-permeance materials in building assemblies - less stringent trigger value (Document 2, proposed change 887)
  • Appendix C re. seismic loads - resulting in design to Part 4 for much of Vancouver island (Document 3, proposed change 879)
A document with draft comments has also been posted.

You may submit comments directly through the NationalCodes website or you may e-mail them to CMHI to be included in the comments that are being prepared by staff.

The deadline for comments is October 31 2014.
