CHBA-SPONSORED WEBINAR ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE NATIONAL BUILDING CODE (NBC)
The Canadian Home Builders' Association is sponsoring a webinar on the proposed changes to NBC Part 9 Housing and Small Buildings.

Date:             Friday 29 November 2013
Time:             1:30 p.m. EST

The webinar will:
  • tell you where you can find the proposed changes so you can review them in detail
  • describe the more significant proposed changes and provide observations on potential problems
  • ask for your input on various issues 
  • tell you how you can submit comments.

Webinar instructions will be sent out middle of next week.

 
WHERE TO FIND THE PROPOSED CHANGES
You don't need to wait for the webinar to learn about the proposed changes.  You can view the proposed changes on the National Codes website.

The proposed changes are provided in Code order and by subject. Review by subject is recommended.  A pdf of all the NBC proposed changes (and proposed changes to all the other national model codes) can also be downloaded.
  • 53 changes are proposed to Part 9 Housing and Small Buildings with 5 related changes to Division A to add new definitions.
  • 13 of these have been identified as significant and warranting comments - support, request for revision or request to withdraw. These will be presented in the webinar.
CMHI AND CHBA COMMENTS ON THE PROPOSED CHANGES
CMHI's Senior Director Technical Affairs and the Chair of CHBA's Technical Research Committee will be submitting comments on behalf of CMHI and CHBA.

A summary of the Part 9 proposed changes and draft comments (including some questions) will be available for your information on the CMHI website under Technical Information for Members - Codes and Regulations (as soon as we can resolve an upload issue).

YOUR COMMENTS ON THE PROPOSED CHANGES 

You may provide comments through CMHI
or directly through the National Codes website. Instructions are provided on the website and information will be provided at the webinar.

The deadline for comments is 13 December 2013.
