Doodle Your Way to a Better Memory

Far from being a trifle, neuroscientists and other researchers say doodling helps us

  • focus,
  • ease impatience,
  • vent emotions,
  • and even generate bursts of insight or new ideas,

according to a recent Wall Street Journal article.

Personally, I doodled my way through an MBA, drawing professors. Besides the humor of my distorted scratchings which sometimes made me laugh, it helped me deal with the complexity, tedium, and exhaustion of listening for hours on end.

For my clients, on the speaking vs listening side of the equation, I have long demonstrated how "signature" marks on speaker notes and using a variety of different colored pens will improve results.  There are a number of ways to do this which we discuss and depends on individual needs. The thing to remember is that how you prepare your notes, as a speaking technique, will
  •  improve your speech delivery,
  • reduce going off on tangents and rambling,
  • and enhance your ability to stay on point.

Note: Comments I make are the direct result of questions clients ask or situations they face. Real leaders dealing with real challenges.
