Ways in Which Whole Foods is Like Vegas
A few weeks ago, I wrote about my buddy Dave Hill, a humorist, an Irishman, and an engineer. Even in his formal engineering presentations, Dave often takes a list of three qualities and turns the final item into an unexpected twist, typically bringing laughter or heightening attention. It's a technique any speaker can use to keep audiences on their toes and more alert.
Surviving Whole Foods, a satirical blog post by comedian Kelly MacLean, reminded me of Dave's tip in that her opening words are a perfect example of the "threes with a twist" concept. The posting is laugh-out-loud funny. (Note: Even back in the days when WF was an Austin hippy joint and I was a Geography student at the University of Texas at Austin, I've been a WF regular.)
I encourage you, me, and all of us to use a little more imagination to find the humor in everyday situations, keeping your audiences plugged in t and enjoying what you have to say.
