Ditch the Viagra: Instead, Boost Testosterone with a Good Speaking Coach This headline is not as farfetched as it sounds based on research presented in yesterday's Wall St. Journal. How you stand not only affects how an audience perceives you; and, thus, your success, a point we at LodeStar Universal have reinforced multiple times in these posts and for more than 30 years elsewhere, at least in the short term, it also even affects how much testosterone you produce. Dr. Dana Carney's study of office poses at the University of California Business School reveals that people who strike "power poses" before speaking, as well as during a talk, literally increase the confidence-boosting hormone testosterone. Such poses also lower stress hormones such as cortisol. (!) The Wall St. Journal article Strike a Powerful Pose provides illustrations and more details from the research that appeared in the journal Psychological Science. We have long advocated that the physical body is just as important as the words when communicating, and a good coach will help you understand what works for you. Meanwhile, this delightful research raises our awareness to new levels of understanding. Alex B. Ramsey August 22, 2013 Vol. 5 Iss. 26
