True Colors

To clients who fret about how they are coming across, I sometimes point out an important concept they often forget:

An audience can't really have any idea who you are as a human being or in your soul. All they know is what you tell them, and what you signal them with your body.

Unconsciously, audiences look for congruency between words and body to trust you as a speaker. This is one reason why mastering natural and authentic body language while speaking is such an asset for getting your ideas across-and well worth the time it takes to learn.

To view an interview clip of one of the great living legends, actress Vanessa Redgrave, on the CBS This Morning and watch her expand further on this idea, click the hyperlink. She discussed Unfinished Song, a new movie she has coming out where she sings a song about one's "true colors," and delivered potent commentary on the theater, fortunately eclipsing the news cast's elementary commentary.
