How Jackie Robinson Hits the Question Mark Questions scare speakers. Our hearts race; our throats lump, and we flub our answers from fear.
Baseball legend Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to break into the Major Leagues in the recent film "42," receives valuable advice from journalist Wendell Smith for dealing with the often obnoxious press.
To paraphrase, Wendell whispers to Jackie, "Just like you see the fast ball slow down to hit it, slow the questions;" and Jackie hits the next difficult question right on the mark with a clever answer.
It's a beautiful baseball analogy for all of us who speak. Instead of rushing to answer, slow those questions down in your own mind and you'll answer more successfully.
