wide world of kale (a seedy giveaway); rescue stored garlic (freeze it!); a giant tomatillo

Diverse kales, giant tomatillos

We've been seed-shopping our way around the nation lately in my series on the radio and blog -- and now we'll head around the world a bit, led by Andrew Still, half the team at Adaptive Seeds of Oregon, an exciting relative newcomer to the retail organic-seed marketplace.

We'll talk kale (what diversity!), winter squash, and even a delicious tomatillo as big as your hand, among other must-have's -- and you can enter to win seed gift cards from Adaptive's catalog. All here

Cloves of stored garlic to freeze midwinter rescue: freezing stored garlic, onions

The weather has been so up-and-down and then some, I started to fret about vegetables in storage in the barely heated upstairs of my little barn. This week I rescued and roasted up some 'Delicata' squash, and also peeled whole cloves of garlic, diced onions, then froze them both, before they start to sprout. My rescue tactics.
