I pulled the peas, making room for another planting to reap in fall (forces willing). With one pound of the shelling types, I'm making a sort of pea pesto to serve on pasta, inspired by Hugh Fearnley-Wittingstall's newest cookbook, "River Cottage Veg," and his dish called Macaroni Peas. pro tips for extending the vegetable-garden season
Keep on truckin'! As a seed farmer, Hudson Valley Seed Library co-founder Ken Greene knows a thing or two about when to sow crops, and that's his best advice right now: Keep on truckin' -- er, sowing. Many vegetables and herbs are still being sown and transplanted, and will right into fall at the Library's farm in Accord, New York -- where I will be participating in events on July 20 and August 24. cardinal climber, hummingbird magnet
I gave the cardinal climber a twice-as-tall support this year, trying like mad to accommodate this ambitious little vine, but this hummingbird favorite has outgrown even the expanded digs! The birds don't mind that it's literally over the top. More on this great vine. (It's currently past 10 feet and going strong!)
