College Summit Indiana

Writing Coach and College Coach Recruitment

Annually serving 50,000 students in 9th through 12th grade, College Summit is the nation's largest nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of low-income youth by connecting them to college and career. College Summit uses peer leadership, summer workshops, custom curricula, real-time student performance data and technology to help get these high school students from low-income communities to and through college.

College Summit Indiana is currently recruiting volunteers to serve as Writing Coaches or College Coaches at our three summer workshops. At each four-day workshop, 15-20 volunteers join forces to help 40-60 rising high school seniors learn how to write a personal statement, talk one-on-one with college coaches about possible colleges they might want to consider, learn about financial aid, and gain inner strength to deal with any personal problems they might encounter.  The 2014 College Summit Indiana Summer Workshop Schedule is as follows:

·        July 10 - 13, 2014: Indiana State University

·        July 17 - 20, 2014: Franklin College

·        July 17 - 20, 2014: University of Indianapolis

The workshop is a residential college experience for students, and takes place Thursday through Sunday.  Volunteers do not have to be a writer to be a Writing Coach at our workshops.  Our Writing Coaches come from many different disciplines, ranging from doctors and lawyers to CEOs and administrative assistants.  At the Workshop, College Summit staff provides all the training and support necessary to help you guide your team of students through the Writing Curriculum.  College Coaches should have at least one year prior experience in college counseling (i.e. high school guidance counselor, college admissions officer, private college counselor, college requirement advisor, nonprofit college guidance assistance).

During each workshop, free parking, meals and lodging will be provided to all volunteers.  Each volunteer will have their own room on campus.  Volunteers who live within the city limits of a particular workshop will not be required to stay overnight on campus of the assigned workshop.

If you, or someone you may know, are interested, please feel free to forward them the contact information for Shondelle Edmonds, Operations Coordinator, 317-972-4383 or at sedmonds@collegesummit.org.
