Pets are Welcome! 

 

Pets are now a key factor in a renter's decision making process, with amenities such as pet vending machines, dog washes, pet yards and even "petworking" events - often known as Yappy Hours - cropping up at more and more apartment complexes.   

 

While renters are embracing pet ownership, multifamily management is dogged by complaints of animal waste. As a result, many are turning to DNA testing to target those who do not clean up after Fido - new technology enables communities to collect doggie DNA profiles with a simple mouth swab.

Full Steam Ahead for Multifamily

 

Demand for apartments will surge over the next several years, according to panelists at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders' Show (IBS) in Las Vegas. But while multifamily construction continues to boom, experts expect the speed to slow as sustainable levels are reached in 2015 or 2016.

 

The robust performance in multifamily comes from multiple sources, including a rising demographic of echo boomers as well as a wave of households that rent rather than own.

Multifamily Reigns in Northern California

Three Northern Calif. cities - San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco - are ranked among the Top Ten Multifamily markets in the country, each forecast to generate significant rental rate growth while maintaining high occupancy. Not surprisingly, half the list is in California, with seven of the ten markets on the West Coast. Only one East Coast market - Miami -- made the cut.
