Greetings!
Randy Nicklaus
Randy Nicklaus, President

Our new Help Me Grow initiative is now in full gear.  We are accepting calls via 2-1-1 from concerned parents or guardians who have children they think may not be developing as fast or in the same way that other children of the same age are developing.  Our Help Me Grow Care Coordinator will assist with a quick online assessment (called Ages and Stages Questionnaire or ASQ).  When appropriate, they will offer referrals to community resources that address these needs and will also stay in contact to help the parents/ guardians negotiate the array of services and improve the chances to make the service connections that will help their child.
.
In future newsletters, we will continue to feature stories on how we are helping fill gaps in community services and advocating for improvements to these systems that serve children and families.
.
You can help us make a difference by buying tickets to our annual fundraiser - A Night in the Tropics on April 25th.  This year we are pleased to announce that Crooked Shooz will be performing at the event.  Tickets available at www.211bigbend.org/Tropics2015
.
Best regards,
Randy

2-1-1 Big Bend Board Member Spotlight

Casey Smith
Casey Smith,
Owner/Proprietor
Krispy Kreme

I grew up in Tallahassee and was exposed to the needs of the community as a young child. My mother is a clinical social worker, so her passion to help others was pertinent to my youth. I spend my time, outside of my work as a business partner with my husband at Krispy Kreme and raising my beautiful children, giving back to the community whenever I can. The ability to promote awareness about 2-1-1 seemed like a great way to do that!

I was aware, like many of you, of the assistance that 2-1-1 Big Bend gives callers. However, I do not think I knew to what extent. 2-1-1 Big Bend is the 411 to anyone who needs assistance. Their extensive database can refer a caller to the appropriate agency that may be able to help or they can even just counsel them. The hotline volunteers are trained and educated on how to handle all calls and help the callers feel a since of relief.

2-1-1 Big Bend is for anyone. When needing support, help, or direction, 2-1-1 will be able to help. It is not for one type of demographic, it is for everyone in the community that at some point needs to know who to call or where to begin.

As a board member, I hope that I can help promote 2-1-1 Big Bend so that everyone knows how helpful this agency is for our community and that our community knows that this resource is available to help them.

This year I am chairing our big fundraiser the A Night in the Tropics, I would love to see everyone there! Please contact us to find out how to sponsor and purchase tickets. See you April 25th!

REFLECTIONS

Be of service. Whether you make yourself available to a friend or co-worker, or you make time every month to do volunteer work, there is nothing that harvests more of a feeling of empowerment than being of service to someone in need. ~ Gillian Anderson
