 Be Safe During the Summer!

Summer is in full swing. While enjoying your summer it is important to remember that you and your family need to stay safe! Florida loses more children under the age of five to drowning then any other state. As your children play its important to emphasize safety and supervision. For more tips about summer water safety, visit:
In just 10 minutes, the temperature of a parked vehicle can rise by 20 degrees. This heat can be deadly, especially of children. For some tips about high temperatures and hot cars, www.myflfamilies.com/summer-safety

Join 2-1-1 Big Bend in having a safe summer!

Greetings!

 Randy Nicklaus
Our fiscal / program year just ended and I'm always amazed to review all of the activities and services of our agency.  We are still compiling the data but here are a few interesting statistics for all hotline programs:

48,564 hotline incoming contacts
882 follow-up or advocacy calls
74 high risk suicide calls handled
811 total suicide calls (low, medium, high risk)
13,604 volunteer hours
3,203 student intern hours

None of these numbers really tell the story of how we helped those who called us or how we worked with our collaborative partner in the community.  We'll have more analysis and anecdotes in future newsletters.

I'm very proud to be a founding board member of the Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence (INIE).  We had our "soft" launch last month at the TCC Capitol Center.  Many nonprofit training workshops and series are slated for this fall so check it out and register.  Everyone involved with a nonprofit should be aware and take advantage of this Institute.  View the training calendar at: http://www.theinstitutefornonprofits.org/

Welcome to our new board officers for FY14-15:
Polly White, Chair
Andre Holmes, Vice Chair/ Treasurer
Carol Gagliano, Secretary
Al Pasini, Immediate Past Chair

We are excited to begin the fiscal year with some new programs and funding opportunities coming our way.  If we are successful you will be hearing much more on this topic in months to come.  Stay tuned!
President
