It seems like this fall has gone by in a flash. Perhaps this is because the nonprofit arena is abuzz with various ideas to create a better system of care for Tallahassee and the Big Bend communities. While meetings and collaborative efforts take time, we hope to have many exciting positive results come about as a result of them.
First, the Continuum of Care for homeless services has had several meetings around developing a new Comprehensive Service Center on the West side of Tallahassee.
TCC has been convening meetings to plan a community Non-profit Center at their downtown Brogan Museum site.
Another initiative underway is a series of strategic planning meetings for the United Way of the Big Bend and its community partners.
In the health care arena the Capital Coalition for Health is addressing access to care, health disparities and obesity and chronic disease through its various committees including the MAPP Steering Committee.
These initiatives are generating several creative ideas for how all sectors of the community can work together in positive ways.
2-1-1 Big Bend is involved in all of these efforts and many others! With all of this activity, its no wonder why it seems like the time has flown by so fast!
One of the goals related to our agency mission is to help people connect with community resources and to connect the dots between related and sometimes overlapping human service initiatives. Stay tuned for more to come in future newsletters. Randy Nicklaus

Larissa Spies
Marketing & Business Development Volunteer 09 - 11/2013
I recently graduated in International Communication and Media from the Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. In fall 2012, I studied at FSU as part of an exchange program. Living in Tallahassee and experiencing the American College life have made me grow substantially. Before I will move to New Jersey in December, I decided to put my acquired skills into practice by simultaneously doing something good for society. At 2-1-1 Big Bend I have been able to combine my creativity and graphic design skills and thus help develop a new consistent design for online and print media.
I am back in my hometown in Germany right now but thanks to the Internet I am even able to help from here. In November, before I will move to New Jersey, I am planning to be in Tallahassee again in order to further assist 2-1-1 Big Bend with strategies and designs that will promote the brand and raise awareness. It really feels great to use my skills to contribute to the better of other people's lives!
"Larissa has been a great asset to 2-1-1 Big Bend and it was a pleasure working with her. We look forward to her return in November," said Sheila Horne, Development Director. |
