2-1-1 Big Bend News

May 2013

Greetings!  ,
Randy Photo
Randy Nicklaus, President

2-1-1 Big Bend was selected as the Nonprofit Organization of the Year at the 2013 Chamber Awards.  We are very honored and appreciative of this recognition.  Thanks to our staff, volunteers, board and community sponsors for making this possible!

If you missed it, our annual fundraiser, A Night in the Tropics, was held April 27th and was a big success!  Nearly 300 people attended and had a great time tossing rings and winning bottles of wine, playing the casino games for chances to win prizes and bidding on some pretty cool items in our silent auction.  We had some wonderful communty support including Brandt Information Services as our Tropics Sponsor.  Besides having fun, making friends and telling people about our programs, we raised $37,000 which exceeded last year's total!  Thanks to all who helped, especially Sheila Horne, our Development Director, and Carol Gagliano, our board member who chaired the benefit committee!

P.S. Please vote for 2-1-1 Big Bend at FindLearnGive to help us win $2,000.  See the next article for details.  Also, let your friends know about our next Hotline Volunteer Training class that starts soon!

Chamber Award Winner
2013 Technology Business of the Year

Helping businesses help themselves. That's what AEGIS is all about. In 1997, the idea came about to start a full service outsourced I.T. company, essentially a company that takes over your computer and fixes it if anything goes wrong. Thank you for serving our community for the past 15 years.

Aegis is also a proud sponsor of 2-1-1 Big Bend and Aegis CEO Pam Butler serves on the 2-1-1 Big Bend board of directors.  We appreciate your continuous support!

National Mental Health Awarenss Month

Promote Mental Health Wellness

Everyday, Americans seek help in responding to the multitude of stresses, challenges and demands of their lives. National Mental Health Month seeks to expand their awareness and help them cope better to improve their well-being.

May 1st kicked off National Mental Health Month (NMHM) continuing the long-standing tradition of encouraging awareness of mental and emotional health. During May, the National Mental Health Association or Mental Health America (MHA) takes time to promote health and wellness in homes, communities, and schools. This year's theme, "Live Your Life Well", seeks to increase the number of people who take action to protect their mental health in times of great personal challenge and also in the face of ongoing stress.

Call 2-1-1, to reach caring, trained counselors who provide supportive counseling, information and referrals to programs within the community, and community referrals.
