VISIONING AN IMPROVED SANDY SPRINGS
Sandy Springs Website Logo

Now almost 10 years old, the City of Sandy Springs is embarking on a yearlong effort to update its Comprehensive Plan guiding the City's future growth and development. To kick off the project, city leaders are inviting the public to join two public forums this summer. The first phase of the planning process will be the June Visioning sessions providing Civic leaders, residents, business owners, and other interested groups the opportunity to share their ideas for neighborhood preservation and improvement.  Participants will be asked to share their thoughts on issues from transportation to environmental concerns, development to preserving quality of life.

The Civic Group Conversation will be Tuesday, June 23, 2015

6:30 p.m. at Heritage Sandy Springs

6110 Bluestone Road

The Community Forum will be Wednesday, June 24, 2015

6:30 p.m. at the Hitson Center Gymnasium

86 Mount Vernon Highway

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR A
STAR SPANGLED WEEKEND!
Sandy Springs and Dunwoody are teaming up this year for a weekends worth of celebrations. On Saturday, July 4, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., the Dunwoody Homeowners Association and the Dunwoody Crier Newspaper will host the annual Fourth of July Parade featuring marching bands, floats, clowns, animals and local celebrities. Last year the parade attracted more than 2,500 participants and 32,000 spectators! And on Sunday, July 5, 2015, head to the Concourse Corporate Center lawn for the annual fireworks display hosted by the City of Sandy Springs. The band, Shiloh, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to pack a snack, bring a blanket, and enjoy an evening under the stars as fireworks illuminate the sky above the iconic King and Queen buildings. Pets, tents, outdoor cooking and personal-use sparklers will not be permitted.
CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES AT SPALDING DRIVE AND MOUNT VERNON ROAD

The intersection at Spalding Drive and Mt. Vernon Road will remain closed to through traffic as construction continues on roadway improvements (weather permitting). Detours are in place to assist motorists traveling through the area. Drivers are asked to use extreme caution and maintain the posted speed limits along the detour routes. This safety-focused project re-aligns the intersection and enhances traffic operations with the installation of traffic signals. The project is expected to be completed late August. Click here for the detour map. For more information visit the project page on the City's website.

RIVERSIDE DRIVE REALIGNMENT PROJECT

Riverside Drive, south of Johnson Ferry Road, also remains closed to through traffic as the City realigns the existing sharp curve on Riverside. Work is planned to be complete by late August 2015, weather permitting.  During the construction period, a detour route will be in place. Drivers are asked to use extreme caution when driving in the area and maintain the posted speed limits.
