COMMUNITY MOURNS FOUNDING MAYOR EVA GALAMBOS

The City bid farewell to its founding mother, as Eva Galambos passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015, losing her battle with cancer. When asked to recall her greatest achievement, Galambos was always quick to respond, "my children."  She was the devout mother of three: Tobae, Michael and Johnny, and grandmother to six. The love of her life was her husband, Dr. John Galambos, whom she met at the University of Georgia and married in 1949. "For those of us who knew her best, her legacy is that dogged devotion to the belief in an idea...a dream...a hope...can produce great things, if you simply refuse to listen to your critics, refuse to yield to your adversaries, and never give up when your cause is just and right," said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul during a memorial service in her honor on April 24. "For as long as a spring bubbles up through the sandy soil of this community, the legacy of Eva Galambos will live. It is a legacy this community never can...and never should...forget. Thank you Eva for being you."

IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE AT SPALDING DRIVE AND MOUNT VERNON ROAD INTERSECTION

The project is expected to be completed late August. Click here for the detour map. For more information visit the project page on the City's website.

RIVERSIDE DRIVE REALIGNMENT PROJECT

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2015, Riverside Drive, south of Johnson Ferry Road, will close to through traffic as the city begins realigning the existing sharp curve on Riverside.  Work will include site grading, roadway construction and the installation of guardrail and sidewalks.  Work is planned to be complete by late August 2015, weather permitting.  During the construction period, the intersection will be closed and a detour route in place. Drivers are asked to use extreme caution when driving in the area and maintain the posted speed limits.
