MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN ACCEPT ALS CHALLENGE AND PASS IT ON!
Their motivation wasn't to beat the heat on a hot August morning, or to throw cold water on their faces after the council meeting the night before that went to 11 p.m. Mayor Rusty Paul, along with councilmen John Paulson, Ken Dishman, Graham McDonald and Gabriel Sterling accepted the City of Milton's ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to honor and remember their friends who have been affected by this cruel disease. After being doused by members of the Sandy Springs Fire and Rescue department at Station 2, these good sports paid it forward and challenged the cities of Roswell, Dunwoody and Brookhaven. Councilman Paulson also challenged a group from his church. Check it out! And not to be outdone, the Sandy Springs Police Department's Captain Steve Rose took the challenge and got a little more than he bargained for, see for yourself!

INTERSTATE 285 TOP END PERIMETER
VARIABLE SPEED LIMITS EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 2014
If you're driving the top end of the perimeter, you'll want to pay close attention to the speed limit signs. This month, variable speed limits along the Top End of Interstate 285, the area north of its interchanges with Interstate 20, will go into effect; and the speed limit will increase to 65 miles per hour. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) research offers the following benefits:
  • Enhanced driver safety
  • Moderate and stabilize traffic flow
  • Provide early warnings to motorists of slow traffic or hazardous roadway conditions
  • Reduce congestion and traffic delays by harmonizing flow and reducing traffic crashes
  • Reduce crash frequency, severity and the likelihood of secondary crashes by reducing the speed of vehicles as they approach an accident, traffic queue or stoppage
  • Reduce vehicle emissions
