UPCOMING EVENTS

COMMEMORATE INDEPENDENCE DAY AT THE SANDY SPRINGS STARS AND STRIPES CELEBRATION

Mark your calendar for this  Saturday, July 5, 2014, for the Sandy Springs community fireworks display at the Concourse Corporate Center lawn. The band, Shiloh, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m. Residents are encouraged to pack a snack, bring a blanket, and enjoy an evening under the stars as fireworks illuminate the sky above the iconic King and Queen buildings. Water stations, courtesy of Whole Foods, will be located throughout the Concourse lawn. Pets, tents, outdoor cooking and personal-use sparklers will not be permitted.

The Sandy Springs Stars and Stripes Celebration is sponsored in part by Regent Partners (Concourse Corporate Center). 

 

POWERS FERRY ROAD CONSTRUCTION WITH PLANNED ROAD CLOSURE  
 

Construction crews from Site Engineering, working for the City of Sandy Springs, will be installing  storm sewer pipes and paving Powers Ferry Road. Powers Ferry Road will be closed to through traffic from just south of Eppington Drive to Whitmere Court for a minimum of 75 days.  

Detour Route: Heading south on Powers Ferry Road take Stella Drive to Dudley Lane back to Powers Ferry Road. Heading north on Powers Ferry Road take Dudley Lane to Stella Drive back to Powers Ferry Road.  Click here for Detour Map

Expect delays while crews are working from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Residential driveways will be accessible during the work.  Construction is expected to begin July 7th; weather permitting.

 

SPECIAL-CALLED MEETING OF THE SANDY SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL SCHEDULED FOR
WEDNESDAY, JULY 9
A proposed Performing Arts Center and meeting facility will be the topic of a special-called meeting of the Sandy Springs City Council on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.  During the Workshop session, representatives from Johnson Consulting will overview their findings from a Market Feasibility Study commissioned by the City Council to explore options for a performing arts center as part of the City Center Master Plan. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Sandy Springs City Hall, located at 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500, Sandy Springs, Ga. 30350.

MARTA is planning general public information meetings for the Connect 400 study. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, July 17, 2014, 6:30 to 8:00 PM, at Hampton Inn Atlanta - Perimeter Center, 769 Hammond Dr. NE, Atlanta, GA  30328 
 
RIBBON CUTTING FOR NEW PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
Mayor Paul and Councilman Paulson cut the ribbon to formally open the new pedestrian bridge on Dunwoody Club Drive on June 17, 2014. The pedestrian bridge was added as part of maintenance and repairs on the existing bridge located between Grapevine Run and Ball Mill Place, providing pedestrians with continuous sidewalk connectivity along Dunwoody Club from Jett Ferry to Mill Shire Lane. WOMEN'S SELF-DEFENSE CLASSES
Sandy Springs Police Dept Self Defence Class

The Sandy Springs Police Department sponsors monthly safety classes. The next Women's Self-Defense class is Thursday July 10. The two-hour class is from 6-8 p.m. and is held at the Sandy Springs Police Department. GRILL SAFETY
Summertime and the grilling is easy! The Sandy Springs Fire and Rescue Department wants to make sure your bar-b-ques are safe and urges residents to follow these rules:  If you live in an apartment, do not use your grill or store it in breezeways, balconies/patios, stairways or exit access areas.
Homeowners should make sure their sprinkler systems are working. For more information, here's a link to the City's Fire Code Ordinance.   
 

TIP SUBMIT APP MAKES CRIME REPORTING EASY 
Residents now have crime reporting ability at their fingertips with the Sandy Springs Police Department's latest tool,Tip Soft (http://www.sandyspringspolice.org/Submit-a-Tip). Persons may send text tips anonymously through the system. To submit a tip through text messaging, type SSPDTIPSGA and your message, then send it to 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most cell phones.) Text STOP to 274637 to cancel.  Text HELP to 274637 for help. Message and data rates may apply. Once tips are received, the tipster is assigned a random number so they may remain anonymous.  Tips can also be called in at 770-551-6900.

Summer is in full-swing, and Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks is home to many happy campers! If you're still looking for a summer camp experience for your child, there are a few spots available in the following camps: KidzArt, Guitar, Theater, Club Scientific, and Special Needs. CAC FOOD PANTRY LOW ON
CRITICAL ITEMS
Summer is here and once again the CAC Food Pantry is low on critical items. Donations typically decrease during the summer months, yet requests for food increase when children are home from school.  Please give canned vegetables (mixed, peas, corn, green beans), canned meats (tuna, chicken, chili), cereal, tomato sauce, canned pasta, soup, baked beans, peanut butter and jelly. Bring donations to CAC, find donation time info at www.ourcac.org or call 770-552-4889.

Concerts by the Springs
Sunday July 13 - Grains of Sand Band

Heritage GreenShows are from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and are FREE to the public.

 

Rhythm and Brews  

The open-air concerts are held through August on the last Thursday of each month at The Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn.Thursday, July 31 - Atlanta-based, The Bitteroots.  

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the concert 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.  Admission is $5 for ages 21 and up, $2 for ages 13-20, free for ages 12 and under.  

Blankets, picnics and coolers are welcomed.  Pets and smoking are not allowed.  Parking is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated parking lots.  

Blue and Gray Saturdays - Civil War Family Days
HSS commemorates the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War with museum exhibits, lecture series and hands-on family programming on the last Saturday of the month, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
