MAPPING A PATH TO STORAGE ADOPTION
Due to the resiliency and economic benefits that solar+storage systems offer, storage is becoming increasingly common throughout the country, however "soft costs" for these systems are high. Sixty-four percent of the cost to go solar comes from soft costs like permitting fees and customer acquisition. How does this number change when solar is combined with battery storage?  Through the NYSolar Smart DG Hub, Sustainable CUNY and DG Hub partners Meister Consultants Group and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is conducting a survey of solar+storage project developers to gain a better understanding of solar+storage soft costs in order to map a pathway to mainstream storage adoption. To express your interest in participating in the survey or to recommend participants, please email [email protected].
COMMERCIAL NET METERING 101 VIDEO
Following on the heels of the recently released video 'Net Metering 101 for Residential Use', Sustainable CUNY has posted 'Solar Net Metering 101 for Commercial Use'. Commercial entities interested in going solar can learn in just a few minutes how alternative energy systems can export unused energy back to the grid in exchange for credits on their utility bills. This effort was supported by the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative and New York's utility companies.
REV ANNOUNCES UTILITY DEMO PROJECTS
The New York State Department of Public Service announced the first seven demonstration projects that are part of 'Reforming the Energy Vision' (REV) strategy for embracing the potential of clean energy to empower customers and build a stronger economy and a healthier environment. The first REV demonstration projects engage a wide variety of customers from across the state, from homeowners, to renters, to commercial business, to low-to-moderate income New Yorkers. 'SOLARIZE' EDUCATING THE PUBLIC
One of the hallmarks of every solarize campaign is the free educational workshops. These workshops not only include information on a particular solarize campaign, but inform the pubic about solar in general, serving to raise awareness on the many benefits of this growing energy sector. Data shows that even after a particular solarize campaign ends, the amount of installed solar in that area continues to grow. Solarize Brooklyn CB6 has already had over 430 attend workshops or request site visits with two more workshops scheduled. Solarize Huntington has had 341 people sign up for site assessments, of which 22 have signed on to go solar through the program, representing 185 kW of contracted solar capacity. The next Solarize Huntington workshop will be September 8th.
