MARCH WITH LOCAL 802!

At this time in history, it's more important than ever to march together as union members. The
New York Central Labor Council announces its annual labor rally this coming Saturday, Sept. 12.

Local 802 members will begin marching promptly at 10 a.m., starting at East 44th Street between Fifth Avenue and Vanderbilt. The parade will march up Fifth Avenue. For more info, call (212) 245-4802, ext. 157 or click here.

See you there!*

CREATIVE TEACHING GIGS NOW AVAILABLE IN NYC SCHOOLS

Do you want to use your music to enrich the lives of public school children -- while getting paid? The Actors Fund has come up with a very creative way for musicians and other artists to do part-time teaching gigs in the New York City public schools.

It's not without some fine print, but it just might turn out to be a positive experience for you and a way to increase your income. It's called the STARRRS program. To read a story that our union magazine Allegro published on STARRRS last year, click here.

The first step is to immediately attend one of the Actors Fund Work Program orientation sessions. They take place every Monday from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. at 729 Seventh Avenue, between 48th and 49th Streets, on the 10th floor. (You must arrive on time: no latecomers permitted.) To make the next application deadline for the teaching program, you must attend a session on Sept. 14 or Sept. 21.  Once you've attended, tell the counselor that you want to apply immediately to the STARRRS program.

If you need any more information, please contact the Actors Fund Work Program at (212) 354-5480. Ask for extension 272 to hear a recorded message on the general orientation session, which is your first step. For more details, click here
FREE CONCERT
AT CARNEGIE HALL

Enjoy a free concert by the Local 802 Senior Concert Orchestra on Monday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Carnegie Hall.

Musical director David Gilbert will conduct a program featuring the top musicians in NYC, including a violin concerto performed by Chloe Kiffer, who is this year's winner of the Waldo Mayo violin competition. The concert includes music by Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Richard Rodgers.

There are three ways to get free tickets to the Oct. 12 concert:

* If you want your tickets in your hand prior to the concert, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope before Oct. 1 to: Senior Musicians Association, 322 West 48th Street, New York, NY 10036. In a cover letter, please tell us how many tickets you would like, and please provide your contact info, including name, address, phone number and e-mail address, so we may keep you informed of future concerts.

* A quicker way to reserve your free tickets is to click here to send us an e-mail. Include all of your contact info and how many tickets you'd like. We won't send you your tickets ahead of time, but you'll be able to pick up your tickets at the box office on Oct. 12, prior to the concert. Please pick up your tickets by 1:30 p.m., which is 30 minutes before the concert.

* Free tickets will also be available at the box office, right before the concert, while they last.
