FREE DENTAL CLINIC FOR MUSICIANS AT LOCAL 802
Announcing a free dental clinic for music professionals. Eligible patients will receive a complete dental exam, bitewing X-rays and a dental cleaning, all free of charge.
The clinic will take place on Friday, Jan. 18 and Friday, Jan. 25 at Local 802.
An appointment is required.
To qualify, participants must document at least five years of professional music career history

HURRICANE HELP: YOU NEED US AND WE NEED YOU!
As you know, many musicians are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy. The Local 802 Emergency Relief Fund is now accepting donations to help our members who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Many members have suffered significant losses and require financial assistance for home repairs, instrument and equipment replacement and health care. Donations will be designated for hurricane assistance if you write "SANDY" on the memo line of your check. Funds not used for Sandy-related expenses in the next 12 months will be transferred into the general relief fund to help any member in need. To donate to the Emergency Relief Fund now, click here. Since 1984, the VSA International Young Soloists Program has identified talented musicians who have a disability. The VSA International Young Soloists Competition annually selects up to four outstanding musicians from the United States and the international arena, and supports and encourages them in their pursuit of a career. These emerging musicians receive $2,500, professional development opportunities, and a performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

MEMBERSHIP ALERT:
DEADLINE FOR LS-1 FORMS
LS-1 forms and Music Service Contracts must be completed and filed no later than Feb. 15 to be eligible for the April 1 Health Benefit coverage period. IMPORTANT: Health contributions CAN NOT EXCEED 15% of gross wages. Work dues must be included at the time of submission and you must be a member in good standing (i.e. all past due work dues and membership dues are up-to-date). Proof of engagement must be included: copies of contracts, invoices, pay stubs/vouchers, spreadsheets of private students, etc. No benefits will be processed unless all these criteria are met.

NEED FINANCIAL AID?
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND?
The Emergency Relief Fund helps musicians in need. Financial assistance is provided in the form of a directed grant to the musician's creditors; for example, to a landlord, physician, etc. The eligibility requirements are:
- A minimum of two years' membership in the union;
- Union membership in good standing, with all dues paid;
- "Dire need" as defined by the fund's trustees. This can include: threat of gas, electric or telephone cutoff; eviction; medical debts; costs incurred due to the theft of instruments; auto repairs vital to continued employment; and other emergencies.
