Greetings!

Well spring is upon us, that is for sure! We have so many exciting events this season. We just successfully completed our 5th annual SomerGreen Festival, in partnership with the City of Somerville, our first ever Boston Tree Party apple tree planting, our river clean-up with the Mystic River Watershed Association and the Friends of the Mystic River, a garden raising, and a bike drive with Bikes Not Bombs. And that was just on ONE day! So thank you to everyone who has participated so far, and welcome to all our new partners who are about to embark upon greening initiatives with Groundwork Somerville. Read on to find out about some upcoming events this spring.

Happy Hour at Olde Magoun's Saloon to benefit GWS!

Join Olde Magoun's Saloon in a Happy Hour event to support Groundwork Somerville @5pm, 5/18! A donation (of your choosing) gets you free appetizers, great atmosphere and that feeling in your heart that you are supporting a good cause. That's right - stop by after work, have a drink and support both a great local biz and a great local organization.

Precinct Benefit to Support Groundwork Somerville programs: Join Groundwork Somerville for a night of fun and doing good! $10 (or more!) will get in the door for (4+) bands, all the beer and wine you can buy, and a night of great music and good people, all to support a good cause. All proceeds from the door will benefit Groundwork Somerville's amazing community and youth programs.

Spring workshops are being led by Groundwork Somerville's Gardens Coordinator at the Growing Center, check 'em out!   (22 Vinal Ave)

Tai is looking for folks to attend the Urban Worms event as "Skill Sharers," please contact her if you love worms and have models or stories to share with other enthusiasts ([email protected])!

URBAN COMPOSTING WORKSHOP: Saturdays May 15th and June 25th from 12noon-1pm at the Growing Center.   Have you wanted to learn about urban composting or had trouble managing a healthy compost bin? Come learn the basics of turning yard and food waste into a valuable soil amendment in one of the most rewarding ecological activities that fits well in the city.

URBAN WORMS: Saturday May 14 from 2pm - 3pm

Why raise worms? These little powerhouse composters churn out beneficial soil amendments with little work, eating up food waste. Join an informal discussion and skill-share about the benefits and challenges of vermicomposting in the city.  We are grateful to the participating worm-lovers for sharing their experience and wisdom!
