Review: "Respect Your Elders!"
Baroque Flute Concert and Workshop
On Sunday afternoon, February 24th, the Baroque Flute Concert and Workshop entitled "Respect Your Elders!" began with a performance by baroque flutists Rebecca Troxler, Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham, and Kelly Roudabush and harpsichordist Beverly Biggs.

An audience of about 35 listened with admiration and enjoyment as these wonderfully talented players performed the Triosonata in D major by Quantz; Sonata, Op. 3, No. 3 in B minor for Three Flutes by Dornel; Triosonata, BWV 1039 in G major by J.S. Bach; and Chaconne en Trio by Morel. The audience was transported back into the 18th century by these skillful musicians, all of whom specialize in early music.

Following the performance, Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham, joined by the other musicians, led an interesting and informative presentation about the history and development of the baroque flute, with listeners asking questions.
Great students!

Audience participation concluded the baroque afternoon, with everyone trying out and sharing the eleven baroque flutes that had been gathered for the occasion. With encouragement and direction from the presenting musicians, audience members experienced for themselves some of the differences between baroque and silver flute playing. Without question, people who attended the event enjoyed every minute of this first-class performance and intelligently-presented workshop. RAFA members are fortunate to have such musicians in their midst. No doubt everyone learned to respect not only their baroque elders, but also the baroque experts who gave them such a fine afternoon of music. -- written by Mary Croghan, member of Silver Fantasy Flute Choir, coordinator of Second Winds and Review & Contest, and Vice-President of RAFA
