Greetings!
Once again, it has been a busy stretch of activities for the Foundation and we have many people and events to highlight in this edition of Community Giving.
The 2016 Bed Race was a day of competition, costumes and zombie fun thanks to this year's theme, The Walking Bed. The committee that puts this event together to great success every year is led by Toronto Councillor Paul Ainslie and his wife Janet Ainslie, a director on the Foundation's Board of Directors. Their dedicated team really stepped up the fun this year, with Phil Temple of East Court Ford making the zombie apocalypse come to life with decorations and life-like zombie mannequins lining the track. You can read more about it in the Event News, but I want to personally thank everyone involved in the races for doing an outstanding job.
Next up on the calendar is the Gates Open Home and Garden Tour, taking place on Saturday, June 18. There are a lot of reasons home and garden enthusiasts rave about this event each year, so I encourage you to check it out. Along with a new lineup of unique and beautiful homes, I'm especially looking forward to the speakers series that will give expert advice on home and garden topics. Find out more about this year's tour and be sure to order tickets soon, at www.bluffsgatesopen.com.
I look forward to seeing you at a future event and to all of our donors and volunteers, thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Chad Hanna, President & CEO, Rouge Valley Health System Foundation

A warm thank you for Panda donors
Infants at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital are benefitting from the care they receive in brand new baby warmers, and the donors who made them possible were celebrated May 24.
These VIPs got a chance to see how the Panda Warmers work and hear from the staff who use them every day, about how important the machines are and how meaningful the gift is to their unit and medical team. The Panda Warmers were made possible through the overwhelming generosity of participants and members of the community at events including the Mayors' Charity Golf Classic and the Pickering Mayor's Gala, along with ongoing donations from community groups and businesses. A total of seven new warmers were purchased and delivered earlier this year. To see pictures of the event, click here.

New art and photos to see at RVAP
New photography and artwork displays adorn the hallways at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital thanks again to the Ajax Photography Club as well as art from hospital staff members, Auxiliary members and community neighbours. The featured photographers are Bob Wilson and Frans Grootveld and a number of different artists can be found among the artwork, which is coordinated by RVAP OR nurse Alma Kelley. See the photography exhibits by clicking here and also check out the artwork by clicking here. If you would like to participate in the next session of these two exhibits, please email foundation@rougevalley.ca. A portion of the proceeds of any art sales are donated to the RVHS Foundation.

A real fish tale
A huge thank you to Big Al's Aquarium Supercentres for donating a brand new aquarium, accessories, product, supplies, lifetime maintenance, and of course fish for Rouge Valley Centenary hospital's paediatric unit!
Located in the paediatric waiting lounge, the new addition provides entertainment, distraction and fun for children and families coming to the hospital. This wouldn't be possible without the big hearts of Allan & Tally Saul, owners of Big Al's Aquarium Supercentres, who made this very generous donation. Special thanks to Andy Martin from Big Al's Scarborough for the delivery and installation of the new tank.
In addition, thanks to Nick Ahrontakis, also from Big Al's Scarborough, who donated his vehicle and time to pick up and deliver all the products to the hospital. We are grateful and fortunate to have community partners like Big Al's Aquarium Supercentre who recognize the need right in their backyard. See more photos here.

out in full force!
Runners had more incentive than ever to get across the finish line at this year's Bed Race, with zombies nipping at their heels every step of the way, all to support the cancer care and paediatric programs at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital.
The theme for the 2016 Bed Race was The Walking Bed, and participants were at the starting line on Friday, May 27, at the Town Centre Plaza in Scarborough, wearing eye-catching costumes, competing with medical staff, hospital supporters and local sponsors, for a number of top prizes in the sixth annual event.
CTV Toronto's own Colin D'Mello was on hand as co-emcee with local comedian, Rick Kunst, providing entertainment and announcing the races. The 2016 Bed Race raised funds for a new Blood Warmer for the Oncology Program and a Vein Viewer for the Paediatric Program at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital. See all of the pictures from the race by clicking here.
Winners of this year's trophies were: Best Dressed: RVHS Head & Neckers and Shoulders (Surgical Program) Hospital Cup Race: Brainiacs ((Performance Evaluation Services) Hospital Cup 2nd Place: Cool Rougings (Intensive Care Unit)
Hospital Cup Fundraisers: Paediatric Flash (Paediatric Care Unit)
Community Fundraising: Quicklane Auto
Community Race Champs: Scarboro Golf and Country Club Community Race runner-ups: East Metro Leasing (Adopt-a-Team)

Yarn needed to support volunteers
Rouge Valley Centenary Volunteer Services handcraft volunteers, who fundraise for their hospital, have depleted their donated yarn supply!
The previous supply lasted two years and anything they make now must come out of their fundraising dollars, so they are looking for more donations from the public to help them continue their work and make it successful for fundraising. This group has raised over $2,000 since April and your help would be greatly appreciated. To find out more or arrange your gift of yarn, email rsagar-lal@rougevalley.ca.

Please consider a bequest to RVHS to benefit patient care
You can tailor your bequest to the hospital and/or program area that is important to you.
Last month we provided an example of a specific bequaest clause. A general bequest to the area of highest priority need would look like this:
To pay to Rouge Valley Health System Foundation the sum of $........ to be designated to the Ajax and Pickering hospital used for the area of highest priority need.
Or
To pay to Rouge Valley Health System Foundation the sum of $........ to be designated to Centenary hospital used for the area of highest priority need.
Your bequest will directly benefit patient care.
