And there you have it, Christmas is a wrap!

The Foundation enjoyed a tremendous holiday season, and I am so excited to share this package of news items about the amazing generosity we witnessed at both Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering and Rouge Valley Centenary hospitals this December.

When it comes to the holidays people are understandably in a festive and giving mood. But our Secret Santa campaign is an example of how people can reach new levels of kindness when motivated. Such was the case when people heard about our long-term patients who in some cases don't have family or friends to bring joy to them on December 25.

Individuals, families, our Rouge Valley staff and employee teams from local businesses stepped up to the challenge and overwhelmed our "elves" with donations of funds and gifts made specifically to the needs of our patients.

The patients had a much warmer Christmas day as a result and it was a wonderful experience for everyone involved! To all of our Secret Santas, 'Thank You' for your time and kindness. You brought the Christmas spirit at Rouge Valley to new heights in 2015!

Happy New Year to each and every donor to Rouge Valley throughout the year. I wish you all good health and prosperity in 2016.

Sincerely,

Chad Hanna

Secret Santas make Christmas warm

We had many people come to the Foundation before Christmas to bring gifts for our Secret Santa campaign this year. Thank you to everyone who supported our long term patients and helped provide a gift that was presented to patients on Christmas morning!.

Along with individuals, families and companies, we had many Rouge Valley staff excited to participate as elves and donating items for the gift packages. Books, activity kits, personal hygiene and comfort clothes like new robes were very much appreciated by the patients.

A present surprise for
young patients

The Rouge Valley Health System clearly has good friends in the community. It's in evidence every Christmas season when groups and individuals hold toy drives to help make Christmas a special day for the children who must be in hospital for care during the holidays.

Among the many donors this year, staff members like Chris Black, whose family holds a drive in honour of their mother Margaret Black, and Gracie Watson, with her Cabbagetown Toy Drive, are regular supporters of Rouge Valley's young patients. They are joined by the Scarborough Town Centre Security Guards and Pickering Professional Firefighters who each hold an annual toy drive.

Families like the Kidds of Ajax and Williams family in Scarborough are amazing examples as they bring their children into the charitable movement! We are also grateful to Samko & Miko Toy Warehouse, with Foundation Friend Lori Ricer bringing their donation to the Ajax site. New Toy Drive donors Belle Wood Equestrian purchased gifts through an event, with rider fees from a jump school donated to RVHSF. Finally, thank you to the Scarborough Mirror for their annual Very Beary Christmas gifts, with staff delivering plush stuffies to our young patients.

We are grateful for these and all of the donations that donors brought to our hospital sites this past season. To see more pictures of these donations, visit the photo gallery at www.myrougevalley.ca.

Bazaar success
for volunteers

The Volunteer Services at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital held their annual Bazaar in early December and had one of their most successful years yet.

Baked goods, books and knitted items were very popular items on the tables and the volunteers were pleased with the turnout for the sale. See more pictures here.

Celebrating the
holiday season

The holiday social and celebration of the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital was a beautiful evening, December 3.

Staff, patients and friends celebrated the arrival of December and the holiday season, truly the most wonderful time of the year, despite what the back to school commercials in August would have you believe!

A special thank you to the talented Harmony Highway that performed Christmas favourites for everyone. See all of the pictures here.

Santa Claus
comes to town

The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, through the generous support of Board member Dr. Romas Stas, entered a float in this year's Santa Claus parades, in both Pickering (morning) and Ajax (evening) on Nov. 28.

Thank you to our hospital staff and Dr. Stas for walking the route and helping us hand out the magnets! As well, special thanks to Eric Fowler of Digital Signs and Banners for driving the float again in this year's parades. Both parades were wonderful events with thousands of people lining the parade routes. See pictures of the parades here.
