We are very grateful for the community support Rouge Valley Health System enjoys in west Durham Region and Scarborough. All year long supporters come forward to help their community hospital and two events in Pickering are good examples of that right now.
Staff at the Foundation had the privilege to attend the 10th Anniversary celebration of Bessada Kia Pickering last week and it was a wonderful evening. Not only did we meet one of the Kia Soul Hamsters (you know, from the clever television commercials!) but the Bessada family used the occasion to make yet another donation to support Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital's children's program. You will read more about that later in this edition of Community Giving.
And lucky for us, it seems there's no rest for this type of generosity as the next big event for the Foundation comes up right away, with the Pickering Professional Firefighters holding their annual Boot Drive tomorrow. Held at various malls across Pickering, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, we hope everyone will roll down their car windows to say "hi" to the brave men and women who help protect the residents of the city every day at emergency situations in Pickering.
On behalf of everyone at the Foundation, and for all that you do for local health care, we wish everyone a wonderful fall season and a blessed time of family next week for the Thanksgiving holiday. Sincerely,
Tracy Paterson, Vice President, Community Development Rouge Valley Health System Foundation

To Rouge with Love, garden party style
The Di Cesares, John and Tracy, welcomed a large group of friends to their Ajax home recently for a To Rouge with Love Garden Party fundraiser, to support the RVHS Cardiac Care Program.
It was the second year for the garden party for the couple and the Di Cesares are proud supporters of their community hospital, with John also sitting on the Foundation's Board of Directors. To Rouge with Love events are held by hospital supporters to raise funds to purchase essential cardiac equipment. Each event features a special guest from Rouge Valley Health System's well-respected cardiac staff, to explain why the equipment is important, as well as to talk about advances in cardiac care. Dr. Derek Yung spoke at the garden party about his work at Rouge Valley. To see more pictures from the event, click here. For details about holding a garden or cocktail party of your own, contact Ros at 416--281-7463 or email rsagar-lal@rougevalley.ca.

Bessada Kia's 10 great years
Pickering's Bessada Kia held a 10th Anniversary Party last week and the Foundation was a big beneficiary of their generosity!
Proud to have served clients for a decade now, Bessada Kia used the occasion to celebrate the dealership's excellent team, partners and the customers who keep coming back. The dealership is a great supporter of children's programs at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital and through their Drive Change event this year, they raised $5,000 to donate to their community hospital. To see pictures from the event, click here.

Firefighters' Boot Drive tomorrow!
Have your spare change ready if you are driving and shopping in Pickering this weekend, because the firefighters and volunteers from the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation will be greeting you at various malls during the annual Pickering Professional Firefighters Boot Drive, collecting donations to support Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital (RVAP).
This annual fundraising event involves teams of firefighters and volunteers stationed at mall exits for most of the day, greeting motorists as they come and go. Last year, the Firefighters were able to raise $10,000, and they hope that drivers who enter and exit the malls will be even more generous when asked by volunteers to donate their spare change.
The funds from this year's Boot Drive will help bring an important piece of equipment to RVAP: a portable c-arm x-ray.

RVHS Annual Report now available
What is Rouge Valley Health System's (RVHS) strategy to meet the needs of its growing Scarborough and Durham Region communities? The short answer: Expand current services, develop new ones; and find new ways to improve how patients can access health care more easily.
The more detailed answer is provided in the hospital's new annual report, which highlights how Rouge Valley is providing leadership in program growth and service integrations for its communities of Whitby, Pickering, Ajax and Scarborough. The 2014 annual report shares many examples of how the hospital system will continue providing the right care in the right place at the right time for patients and their families.
