This has been a very busy spring season for the Foundation and we are just overwhelmed by the tremendous support our donors and volunteers have provided through several events in the past number of weeks.

And we're not done yet! Next up is The Bluffs Gates Open Home & Garden Tour next week and I encourage you to purchase a ticket soon before they are all gone. You do not want to miss out on seeing these beautiful homes in the amazing Bluffs area of Scarborough.

And as we get close to Father's Day, I would like to give you one thought as you contemplate how to honour "the dad who has everything" this year, or even to pay tribute to the memory of your father. A Father's Day tribute gift to Rouge Valley Health System helps your community hospital to continue to provide the best care possible. Make a safe and secure online donation by clicking here.

Sincerely,

Chad Hanna

And the winner is... our patients!

Participants were on their marks and ready for the Bed Race for Rouge Valley Centenary hospital (RVC) on May 23 at Scarborough Town Centre.

Crazy costumes were just part of the attraction for racers and the crowds enjoying the annual bed race, with teams competing for a number of top prizes in the annual event. So far totals for the race have reached more than $35,000 and the Bed Race committee hopes to continue to add to that total in the weeks ahead to raise enough to purchase a new operating table for RVC's surgical unit.

CTV was on hand once again to broadcast live from the races during the News at Noon and Denise Andreacchi rode a bed for the CTV team live in one of the races! To see the broadcast, click here.

Pictured: The race action was intense as teams pushed at a frantic pace to get across the finish line first.

Ladies tee up to
help Rouge Valley
surgeons

The annual Who's Your Caddy? golf tournament, a ladies-only affair on June 2, featured new activities and a new location, with participants having more fun than ever as they supported the surgeons of Rouge Valley Health System.

The fifth edition of the wildly popular tournament put together ladies' foursomes with a male caddy who acted as the traditional golf advisor, and who also took a few shots whenever called upon. Along with enjoying the hard work and dedication of the caddies, the ladies got into the spirit of the day with many wearing themed outfits and costumes, taking part in unusual competitions, making it the tournament with the most fun around.

Proceeds from this year's tournament support the purchase of a portable fluroscan, a diagnostic tool needed by Rouge Valley's orthopaedic and plastic surgeons. Dr. Alan Eckhaus, a plastic surgeon who was also a caddy for the day, explained to the ladies during the awards presentations just what the machine is used for and how it will help patients.

Pictured above: Caddy Joe Tilley of CTV Sports, was an emcee and a caddy for the event and he had his foursome laughing all day as they enjoyed the antics of the 2014 Who's Your Caddy? tournament.

City delivers on
MRI gift pledge

City of Pickering representatives recently made a visit to the MRI suite at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital to deliver a gift.

Mayor Dave Ryan, with councillors Kevin Ashe and Doug Dickerson, presented a cheque for $100,000, an installment of a gift pledge of $500,000 the City made to support the Image is Everything campaign to bring a new MRI to Pickering and Ajax's community hospital.

Auxiliary comes
through for MRI

The Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital is a fabulous group of dedicated and generous volunteers and they showed it once again during a recent gift presentation.

On May 27 the Auxiliary delivered a cheque for $15,000, one of many sizable payments on their amazing pledge to support the purchase of a new MRI for Ajax and Pickering's hospital.
The presentation was made during the Rouge Valley Health System Board of Director's meeting.

Patients hospitalized at Rouge Valley Health System who need different types of care during their stay are benefiting from a new Bed Map initiative that brings the care to them, rather than having patients move to a new bed or another unit.

For example, stroke patients who require rehabilitation after their acute care treatment will not have to wait to be transferred to a different bed or floor. Instead, rehab will come to them, allowing patients to get the care they need faster and safer. Read about this and more on new programs and clinics being offered at Rouge Valley in the latest issue of Echo - the hospital's quarterly magazine.

As a long-time member of the Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, and a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Ajax, Gloria Sharples was a fitting volunteer for the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation Board of Directors to give recognition to at its May 27 meeting.

Ms. Sharples was recognized for more than 30 years as a member of the Auxiliary, as well as for her 20-plus years as a Rotarian, and it was noted that she was also the recipient of the
prestigious 2013 Ajax Civic Award

Pictured: Ms. Sharples holds a bundle of stuffed toys delivered by the Rotary Club of Ajax, which has donated more than 12,000 'stuffies' over the years to its community hospital.
