As February winds down, we want to take the opportunity to thank the hosts of two special To Rouge with Love events held to support Rouge Valley's Regional Cardiac Care Program. Gord and Ann Moore once again opened their home to guests for a fundraising cocktail party and to hear Dr. Joe Ricci speak about the great successes the Cardiac Program has enjoyed in the past few years. That was followed the next week by Anne Raghurai who welcomed friends and family in her home once again, to hear from Dr. Paul Galiwango about further advances in cardiac care. We are fortunate to have dedicated supporters willing to hold events and generous donors attending and we thank them for being great Friends of the Foundation. These events are made all the more special by the involvement of the leaders of the Cardiac Program and we thank Dr. Ricci and Dr. Galiwango for their dedication. Sincerely,
Chad Hanna, President & CEO, Rouge Valley Health System Foundation

Family first at annual walkathon
On Family Day, Feb. 17, 2014, the generous members of the Scarborough Muslim Community and the Save Family Values groups once again walked to support excellence in local health care, by holding their second-annual walkathon in support of patient care at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital. A special thanks to the Pickering Town Centre for their ongoing and generous support!
A group from the Town Centre surprised the Foundation with more funds than anticipated from their November Black Friday promotion when they visited the hospital for a cheque presentation recently. Through their promotion for Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital (RVAP) they were able to raise more than $3,000 from the day!

Supporters of Rouge Valley Health System's Regional Cardiac Care program celebrate Valentine's Day and Heart Month in style, opening their homes for fundraising events with a personal touch in February. The annual event, affectionately known as To Rouge with Love, is a series of cocktail parties and events intended to raise funds to help purchase essential cardiac equipment. Now in its fourth year, the events support funding for priority equipment at Rouge Valley Health System hospitals. Each event features a special guest from Rouge Valley Health System's well-respected cardiac team, to explain why the equipment is so important and needed, as well as how it is used. Pictured, top: On Feb. 20, Anne Raghurai once again opened up her beautiful home in the Scarborough Bluffs for an event. An annual event now, the National Post's Tech Desk editor, Matt Hartley, collects new and used video games for children's hospitals and paediatric centres across Canada, in the Hartley's Video Game drive for Kids, held during December.
Rouge Valley Health System hospitals were among the lucky recipients of games and equipment for all ages. Staff in the paediatric departments of Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering (RVAP) and Rouge Valley Centenary hospitals (RVC) were pleased to accept the games, which are put to good use by young patients.
Thank you to Mr. Hartley for once again including Rouge Valley among the many hospital systems across Canada the game drive supports.

The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation visited the residents at 1880 and 1890 Valley Farm Road for a special donor recognition event on February 26. With about 70 per cent of the residents in these buildings supporting their community hospital as donors, the Foundation wanted to show its appreciation. Resident and donor Irena Barker hosted the gathering and welcomed Rouge Valley Health System cardiologists, Dr. Paul Galiwango and Dr. Amir Janmohamed, to talk about the exciting developments in cardiac care at Rouge Valley, as well as answer questions from the audience. Thank you to Meridian Credit Union for sponsoring the event. It was a fabulous 60th celebration as many gathered to celebrate Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering's 60th anniversary on February 25. Guest speaker RVHS Board Chair Joan Wideman thanked staff, physicians, midwives and auxiliary members for their contributions over the course of six decades. Displays by the Town of Ajax featured rare artifacts documenting the hospital's history, and the auxiliary volunteers photo albums and memory collections were a popular attraction. Some special guests in attendance included members of the RVHS Board of Directors, Foundation Board Chair Judith Barker, and former Ajax and Pickering General Hospital CEO Ken MacInnes.
