Happy New Year's Eve to all of the Friends of the Foundation!
In our last communication for 2013, we want to recognize that the Christmas holiday was a difficult time for many in Scarborough, Ajax, Pickering and Whitby due to the weather and resulting power outages. So we extend our best wishes to everyone and hope that you were still able to have a blessed time with family throughout this past week.
In this last Community Giving Foundation Update for the year we wanted to share some of the acts of kindness that took place at Rouge Valley Health System over the course of the Christmas season.
Thank you to all of our wonderful community partners, volunteers and donors for your generous support in 2013, helping to provide our staff and doctors with the equipment they need to provide the best patient experience. We wish you a safe and happy New Year's Eve tonight and hope you have a tremendous 2014 ahead.
Sincerely,
Chad Hanna, President & CEO, Rouge Valley Health System Foundation

Firefighters bring Christmas cheer
The Pickering Professional Firefighters Association is an amazing supporter of their community hospital! Each year a group of these firefighters visit Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital at Christmas time to deliver toys to children in hospital during the holidays. Along with the gifts handed out on Dec. 19 this year, more were left to be distributed by hospital staff in several units to kids as they come through.

Aiden's visit brings smiles, gifts to kids
It was a festive day at the Rouge Valley Centenary Paediatrics dept.on Dec. 20 as a little boy brought gifts and a warm heart to create smiles for everyone. Once again, Bob and Rachel Kidd, and their son Aiden collected donations of toys to donate to the Rouge Valley Centenary Paediatrics dept. The toy drive is a tradition for the past four years and Aiden, who was born at Rouge Valley Centenary, has a great time cheering up kids by delivering the gifts personally.

Plush bears a soft spot for kids
The Aeropostale store in the Pickering Town Centre donated three boxes of plush teddy bears to the kids of Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering this holiday season.
This annual gift helps staff in many hospital units to keep kids calm during stressful times in their care.

Christmas party for young oncology patients a hit!
Families celebrated with their children at Rouge Valley Centenary as Santa and his helpers brought many smiles to the faces of children in hospital on Dec. 5. Many families and their children, who are patients in the paediatric oncology program, came for the party, with arts, crafts, treats, games and a visit from Santa, naturally. The party is organized by the staff of the hospital and is a wonderful annual event for the patients and their families.
Pictured are two of the guests receiving a gift from Santa.

Amidst the ice storm that struck Ontario just before Christmas, nurses used flashlights to lead an expectant mother to a dark birthing room after the Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital was hit by the blackout.
The medical team at RVAP pulled together to make the hectic birth as smooth as possible and the mother and baby were resting comfortably soon after the birth.
