This December, if you visit Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital or Rouge Valley Centenary hospital, or look in your community newspaper this week, we hope you spot the Foundation's Gift of Health message.

It's part of our annual holiday season campaign to let everyone know how much we appreciate the support of our wonderful donors. If you haven't yet had an opportunity to make a holiday charitable gift we hope you will think of the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation. Aside from financial gifts, keep in mind that your business or staff can host a toy drive, and we can help you share these gifts with children who need care at Rouge Valley during the holiday season.

To find out more, call 905-683-2320 ext. 1501 or 416-281-7342 to tell us about your toy drive, or to make an online donation, click here.

On behalf of everyone at Rouge Valley, I want to send you our best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Chad Hanna

Mayor's Gala a
celebration of China

The annual Mayor's Gala in Pickering, on November 23, was a celebration of China this year and the Pickering Rec Complex was transformed for one amazing evening for this special event.

A sold out audience enjoyed traditional Chinese performances of dancing, singing, drums and lions! The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation is proud to be the recipient of a majority of the funds from the Gala, as Mayor Ryan continues his long-time support of Rouge Valley Ajax-Pickering hospital. This year funds are being used to purchase fetal monitors.

Pictured: Consul General of China, Mr. Fung Li, with the help of Mayor Dave Ryan, took part in a 'blessing of the lion,' through a traditional eye dotting ceremony.

Plastic Surgery in the spotlight at pub event

The Black Dog Pub had a couple of special guests helping out behind the bar on November 27, when TV personality Christine Bentley, and Dr. Marietta Zorn of Rouge Valley Health System's Plastic Surgery Program hosted a Celebrity Bartender night at the popular local restaurant.

Rouge Valley's Plastic Surgery Program  is an important service for many patients, young and old. Guests heard how plastic surgery saves and improves the lives of infants through to seniors.

Pictured: Dr. Marietta Zorn with Lynette, a patient who came out to tell the guests how much Dr. Zorn's care has meant to her.

Black Friday gifts
for PTC shoppers

On one of the biggest shopping days of the year, the Pickering Town Centre provided shoppers with a chance to receive exclusive SWAG Bags for a $10 donation to the RVHS Foundation.

The bags were filled with brand name products valued at more than $200, available only to shoppers who spent $200 or more at PTC stores and services. The promotion was such a success that all 200 SWAG bags available were sold out before noon!

Pictured: Foundation volunteer Ben helped hand out the SWAG bags to shoppers who made a $10 to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

Pickering Islamic Centre representatives Javed and Mohammed made a personal visit to the Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital to make a $5,000 donation to the Foundation.

They explained the centre is very supportive of local health care and through this donation the centre hopes to help its community hospital to provide the best patient experience.

Accepting the gift on behalf of the Foundatin were Vice-President Tracy Paterson, left, and Manager of Special Events, Maureen Dowhaniuk.

Special hats for
RVAP's tiny patients

Some very generous and kind ladies from V!VA Retirement Communities Pickering visited Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital (RVAP) recently, to bring handmade woolen hats to the Maternity and Child Health Units. This is the second time these donors have brought a batch of hats for our tiny patients.

Pictured: Accepting the gift, at far left, is Donna Brownley, manager of Maternal Newborn Services and Paediatrics, from three of the V!VA residents who delivered the hats.

Gift of Health messages reach
RVHS staff and patients

Through the Gift of Health campaign, the Foundation is posting messages from our donors on Christmas tree poster boards located at both Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering and Rouge Valley Centenary.

Staff, patients and visitors of our hospitals appreciate seeing your messages on display and we want to thank everyone who is so kind  to send us personal holiday messages. Here are just a few of the kind words we have received:

"Wishing you all a speedy recovery to enjoy good health and happiness."
Ernie and Marjorie

"Hoping you are home soon. All the best."  Dick and Melissa

"We hope your stay over Christmas is a pleasant one. We wish for good health for you." Anonymous

The Rotary Club of Ajax is once again selling Christmas Hams as a fundraiser to help Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital (RVAP).

This tradition goes back well over 25 years and the Rotary Club is looking to the community for support. Come to the Foundation office at RVAP and for $25 you'll be given a coupon to pick up a ham at Tom's No Frills on Bayly Street. The hams come packaged in nice gift boxes and make great presents. For more details, call Danielle at 905-683-2320 ext. 1501.
Personal care items needed

December 31 deadline approaching
to reduce your tax burden

You can significantly reduce your tax burden by donating Publicly Traded Securities & Mutual Funds. But you only have until December 31, to take advantage of any savings in this current tax year.

If you own stocks or mutual funds that have grown in value, you will face a tax bill when you sell them. By donating them directly to Rouge Valley Health System Foundation you can eliminate your tax bill and make a significant gift at the same time that will benefit patients.

Visit our website to download a Securities Transfer Form, or contact Mary Slavik, Director, Planned Giving at mslavik@rougevalley.ca or 416-281-7342.
