When Bro-tober ends, The Bro Initiative will be complete and so will end the Foundation's first surgical power tool campaign and men's facial hair growing fundraiser.

We have been fortunate to have wonderful support from sponsors and to have enjoyed great events held for the campaign by local businesses. This week alone has been a Bro's dream with great food on the menu. Pizza Pino in Ajax donated funds from pizza purchases Tuesday and today Lick's Homeburgers in Pickering is holding a Bro Family Night from 4-9 p.m. in our honour. I recommend you make this your dinner destination this evening!

And if you are a fan of pub fare, there are Celebrity Bartender events coming up that you will not want to miss. Look for all of the details in the events section of this edition of Community Giving and I hope you will join our awesome Rouge Valley surgeons at one of two spots tomorrow, Oct. 24, at Magwyers Pub in Ajax or Jack Astor's in Scarborough.

Best regards,

Chad Hanna

Dreary day brightened by Boot Drive donors

On October 19, the Pickering Professional Firefighters were joined by Rouge Valley Health System Foundation volunteers, for their annual boot drive. Held at various malls throughout the City of Pickering, firefighters collected donations to support the Foundation and the effort to purchase a Green Light Laser for the men's health program at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

A little help from Lil' Friends

Lil' Friends Childcare Centre recently held a pancake fundraiser to support the Paediatric Unit of Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital. They raised $360 to support children's care at their community hospital!

Today, Oct. 23, come to Lick's Homeburgers in Pickering (780 Kingston Rd.) from 4 to 9 p.m. for the best burgers around. The Boss Bro sponsors are donating 25% of proceeds during this time to  The Bro Initiative. And thank you to Pizza Pinos in Ajax for their Oct. 22 promotion for the Bros. The great pizza makers donated a portion of pizza sales to the campaign!

On Thursday, Oct. 24, the Bro Initiative celebrity bartender events will be a big highlight of the campaign. In Ajax, come to Magwyers Pub from 4 to 7 p.m. where Dr. Joel Lobo, Dr. Mark Porte and Dr. Scott Donaghue are pouring pints. Magwyers is located in the No Frills plaza at 105 Bayly Street W.
