Greetings!
Welcome to our holiday edition of the Foundation Update eNews. On behalf of everyone here at the Foundation, I truly hope you are enjoying a wonderful time of family and friends this holiday season.
Along with all of the news of recent donations and events, I want to remind you that we are just days away from one of the most unique events of the year supporting us in the west Durham area; the Ajax Polar Bear Swim.
Having taken part in this event last year, I can tell you, it is a real blast. The three guys who make this happen each year, founding swimmers Peter Gos and Bob Murray, along with marketing wiz Eric Novak, really make this event a fun time. It's a great way to kick off 2013, with the swim taking place New Year's Day at 1 p.m. at Ajax's Paradise Park on the Lake Ontario shoreline.
I encourage you to support the swimmers by making a donation here, and if you can to come on out that day, if not to jump into the lake, then to cheer on the brave souls who do.
Finally, I'd like to wish all of our supporters, volunteers and donors a safe and happy New Year's next week. We have enjoyed an amazing year in 2012 and with your continued support, I am confident 2013 will be another great year for our Foundation.
Best regards, Chad Hanna, President & CEORouge Valley Health System Foundation

The 'dogtor' is in!
Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital has its very own therapy dog now, thanks to Therapeutic Paws of Canada (TPC). Runkus the Rouge Valley Ridgeback visited RVAP for an orientation and even had a chance to visit with some patients with his handler Graham Horne of Ajax. Runkus will start making weekly visits starting in January and the Foundation is pleased to have been able to help make the connection between TPC and RVAP. The program caught the attention of the News Advertiser and you can read how it all got started in our blog, Foundation Chat. Aiden's gifts bring smiles, laughter to children at RVC
A few years ago, Bob and Rachel Kidd and their son Aiden decided to collect donations of toys for Aiden to donate to the Rouge Valley Centenary Paediatrics Department. They collected through friends, family, and work. Aiden is now 5, and in this third year of the toy drive, it was their best collection yet, the family says.
The toy drive came about to teach their son about charity and Aiden was born at Rouge Valley Centenary, so they decided to support their community hospital. With both Christian and Jewish heritage, Aiden's parents are teaching him to celebrate both Hanukah and Christmas. Christina, of Canyon Creek Grill, which donated many toys to the drive, and her son Jacob, were also on hand to help deliver the toys.
CityTV was on hand with reporter Andrew and cameraman Tony covering the story. You can see the report here. Pictured: Little Aiden waits to enter the oncology unit of RVC's paediatric floor, with his dad Bob, mom Rachel and friends Christina and Jacob.

Videos walk parents through modern birthing services
Parents can now get a first-hand walkthrough and description of the excellent birthing services, physicians, midwives, staff and facilities at Rouge Valley Health System - without leaving home.
Two three-minute videos feature interviews with doctors, staff and mothers describing their birthing experiences at Rouge Valley Centenary (RVC) in east Toronto, and at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering (RVAP), in west Durham. The videos, posted on YouTube, provide first-hand accounts by mothers who have had their babies at RVHS, including Olympic bronze medalist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep. The videos also feature interviews with Rouge Valley's physician chiefs of obstetrics and a chief of paediatrics.
The videos are posted on Rouge Valley's website and YouTube channel. Check them out!
