Saturday, January 26 - Mark Jewett and Bobby Pennock
A fun night is in store with a singer/songwriter in the round comprised of Crazy Wisdom favorites Mark Jewett and Bobby Pennock! Mark and Bobby will be trading songs back and forth, as well as collaborating on a few. With roots and influences spanning genres too numerous to name, Mark Jewett's musical DNA has taken on the flavors and textures of his favorite writers and performers, resulting in what he likes to call "Music Without Boundaries". Drawing on the melodies, harmonies, rhythms, sonic textures and poignant or humorous lyrics that moved him throughout his life, Mark has found a way to put his thoughts and emotions into his songs in a way that is original, yet comfortable and familiar-feeling. His most recent CD, "Love Has No Heart of Its Own", showcases these talents. You can hear who Mark is in every line, from the heartfelt to the humorous. All of his influences and interests are filtered through his unique and honest slant on life, love, longing and contentment. http://markjewett.bandcamp.com
Bobby Pennock is an accomplished singer/songwriter whose style, albeit unique, is reminiscent of those celebrated folksingers of the 1960s and 70s like Paul Simon and Harry Chapin, with a heaping helping of The Beatles thrown in, crafting songs that catch you off guard. Listening to him perform is like watching a good magician. When it's over, you can't help but ask: How did he do that? His first album, 10,000 Stories, is packed with such lyrical tricks - a blend of humor, caged emotion, and suburban zen - delivered innocently enough inside smooth vocals and fetching guitar work. Bobby also has a live album, "Bobby Pennock-2Man Band Live" that will be available soon via digital download. http://www.reverbnation.com/bobbypennock

The Dude and the Zen Master
(Hardcover)
By Jeff Bridges, Bernie Glassman
List Price: $26.95
Our Price: $18.87
(Save: $8.09 30%)
Zen master Bernie Glassman compares Jeff Bridges's iconic role in The Big Lebowski to a Lamed-Vavnik: one of the men in Jewish mysticism who "are simple and unassuming, and so good that, on account of them, God lets the world go on." His buddy Jeff puts it another way. The wonderful thing about the Dude, he says, is that he'd always rather hug it out than slug it out.
For more than a decade, Academy Award-winning actor Jeff Bridges and his buddhist teacher, renowned Roshi Bernie Glassman, have been close friends. Inspiring and often hilarious, The Dude and the Zen Master captures their freewheeling dialogue about life, laughter, and the movies with a charm and bonhomie that never fail to enlighten and entertain. Throughout, their remarkable humanism reminds us of the importance of doing good in a difficult world.

Global Awakening: New Science and the 21st-Century Enlightenment
(Hardcover)
By Michael Schacker, Stephen Larsen
List Price: $29.95
Our Price: $20.97
(Save: $8.99 30%)
Shows how we must make deep changes to complete our paradigm shift from the old mechanistic worldview to the new organic worldview
* Reveals the distinct stages of paradigm shifts through the ages, including the 18th-century Enlightenment and the critical stage of our current shift
* Explains how the new organic worldview began with Goethe and Kant
* Offers solutions for each of us to be able to realize and make the deep changes needed for global regeneration
In Global Awakening, Michael Schacker shows that hidden within our global crises is a positive future for the planet. Sharing his 30 years of intensive research into the history of change as well as the evolution of consciousness and regenerative science, Schacker explains how our current shift from the old mechanistic worldview to a new organic worldview based on biological models follows the same pattern as other paradigm shifts across history, including the 18th-century Enlightenment and the American Revolution. He reveals the creative geniuses who have contributed to the birth of the organic worldview, beginning with Goethe, Kant, and Rodale. Exposing the scientific and social forces that drive paradigm shifts, he details the stages every paradigm shift progresses through: the Early Enlightenment, the Conservative Backlash, the Intensive Phase, and the Flip Point.
Explaining that we are currently in the throes of the Flip Point, the critical last phase of our paradigm shift, Schacker shows how the mechanistic worldview is crumbling around us and nothing but a complete transformation in the way we think will keep us from the path of total self-destruction. Providing a map to overcome the allure of the simplistic mechanical model that has spawned countless unsustainable practices and problems--from global warming to intense economic disparities--the author offers concrete solutions showing how each of us can use our talents, skills, and time to make the deep changes needed for global regeneration.
Windows to the Womb: Revealing the Conscious Baby from Conception to Birth
(Paperback)
By David Chamberlain
List Price: $19.95
Our Price: $13.97
(Save: $5.99 30%)
Windows to the Womb is an eloquent guide through the first nine months of life from conception to birth. In the past, the invisible physical processes of fetal development were mysterious and largely unexplainable, but in the past half-century, breakthroughs in embryology, interuterine photography, ultrasound, and other sensitive instruments of measurement have enabled us to make systematic observations inside the womb. We now understand that fetuses are fully sentient and aware beings. In this new climate of appreciation for the surprising dimensions of fetal behavior, sensitivity, and intelligence, this book brings a host of new information to light about the transformative journey each one of us must undergo in the womb.
With reverent awe, the author describes the amazing construction of our physical bodies, the "ultimate architecture," and draws parallels with the expansion of our minds as our brains and senses develop and grow. Dr. Chamberlain details new discoveries in embryonic and fetal research that support his own findings on the impact of the mother's emotional and physical state during pregnancy; the importance of bonding at the earliest stages, long before birth; and the steps that expectant parents can take to ensure the most nurturing start in life for their children.
