8:30 to 10:30 p.m. - No Cover ChargeEvery Friday and Saturday night Crazy Wisdom invites you to Tea and Tunes. Not a tea drinker? No problem! Crazy Wisdom offer a wide selection of coffee drinks. (while you're here, don't forget to try some of our tasty treats as well!) Friday, January 4 - HoodangOriginally founded in 2003 and coming off an extended hiatus for songwriting, Hoodang is back in full swing. Sonically restless and critically lauded, this Ann Arbor-based alt-country outfit has been tapping into that gleaming vein of auditory gold that travels back into the early part of the last century. Drawing inspiration from the tradition of English murder ballads, hardcore American country music, and careful-you'll-cut-yourself electric blues, the band plays a shape-shifting amalgam of original American roots music. Lead vocalist and main songwriter David Rossitervsings of people tarnished by bad blood and bad luck who still find ways to make it through to the next town, day, marriage, crime, or bottle. Joining him are Dave Keeney on lead guitar, Ralph McKee on bass and John Crawford on percussion. http://hoodang.com Saturday, January 5 - Derek DanielMusic has always been a large part of Derek Daniel's life. Raised in the musical magic of metro Detroit, he has often been referred to as a "suburban nomad", having resided in most all of Detroit's suburbs - a name he later parlayed into a band! He also laid down musical roots in the western hotbed of the Ann Arbor area. Known for his vocal styling, his music falls into the progressive folk/rock/blues vein, but disdains categorization and refuses to be pigeon-holed. Derek has performed at many festivals and venues throughout Michigan, including The Ark, Trinity House Theater, and Ypsilanti's Crossroads summer series, and has appeared on stage with Michigan favorites such as Chris Buhalis, John Latini, Annie and Rod Capps, Dave Boutette and a host of others. He is also an active member of Southeast Michigan's Songwriters Anonymous, a participant and performer at F.A.R.M. (Folk Alliance Regional Midwest), and a longtime supporter of Lamb's Retreat for Songwriters and the Springfed Arts organization. http://www.reverbnation.com/derekdaniel

Hope: A Tragedy (Paperback)By Shalom AuslanderINSTORE ONLYList Price: $16.00Our Price: $11.20(Save: $4.80 30%)The rural town of Stockton, New York, is famous for nothing: no one was born there, no one died there, nothing of any historical import at all has ever happened there, which is why Solomon Kugel, like other urbanites fleeing their pasts and histories, decided to move his wife and young son there. To begin again. To start anew. But it isn't quite working out that way for Kugel... His ailing mother stubbornly holds on to life, and won't stop reminiscing about the Nazi concentration camps she never actually suffered through. To complicate matters further, some lunatic is burning down farmhouses just like the one Kugel bought, and when, one night, he discovers history-a living, breathing, thought-to-be-dead specimen of history-hiding upstairs in his attic, bad quickly becomes worse. Hope: A Tragedy is a hilarious and haunting examination of the burdens and abuse of history, propelled with unstoppable rhythm and filled with existential musings and mordant wit. It is a comic and compelling story of the hopeless longing to be free of those pasts that haunt our every present. The Rules of Inheritance: A Memoir (Paperback)By Claire Bidwell SmithList Price: $16.00Our Price: $11.20(Save: $4.80 30%)A 2012 Books for a Better Life nomineeA powerful and searingly honest memoir about a young woman who loses her family but finds herself in the process. In this astonishing debut, Claire Bidwell Smith, an only child, is just fourteen years old when both of her charismatic parents are diagnosed with cancer. What follows is a coming-of-age story that is both heartbreaking and exhilarating. As Claire hurtles towards loss she throws herself at anything she thinks might help her cope with the weight of this harsh reality: boys, alcohol, traveling, and the anonymity of cities like New York and Los Angeles. By the time she is twenty-five years old they are both gone and Claire is very much alone in the world. Claire's story is less of a tragic tale and more of a remarkable lesson on how to overcome some of life's greatest hardships. Written with suspense and style, and bursting with love and adventure, The Rules of Inheritance vividly captures the deep grief and surprising light of a young woman forging ahead on a journey of loss that humbled, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
